Interestingly, Jack has a slight height advantage on Stevenson. Adonis has done well against taller fighters throughout his career however, mainly due to his reach and the awkward angles he presents. I'm not sure Adonis has faced anyone with the combination of size and skill that Jack possesses. Badou is a guy who seems to do everything well even if he is not truly great in any one area. I think slow and steady wins the race for Jack here if he can balance a cautious approach with a blend of intelligent offense. Stevenson's power has me wary of picking Jack, but Badou's youth gives him an advantage and should he take the measured approach that he usually does I can see him winning a close but clear decision over an aging Stevenson.
Jack isn't that young, he will turn 35 in october, and also even though Stevenson is 40, his body doesn't have a lot of damage. Really excited for this one.
True, I should have written "relative youth". It's definitely an excellent match up. Should Jack win he will have more time left to fight the other top guys of the division seeing as Stevenson must be nearing the end of his career at 40.
Very interesting question. I think we will have a much better idea after the Stevenson fight. Although Jack is still largely unproven at LHW he would be the highest quality opponent that The Nail has fought, imo. Gvozdyk is kind of the dark horse of the division. He's passed the tests in front of him with flying colors, but hasn't fought anyone really tops yet. So they're both unknown quantities to an extent (albeit for different reasons). At the moment I'd give Gvozdyk the benefit of the doubt since he's spent his entire career thus far at LHW and has beaten guys arguably on par or better than the Cleverly that Jack beat. I rate him high enough to give him a slight edge, but wouldn't be entirely confident in picking him at this point.
I expect a tough fight , Jack has the annoying habit of getting hit in the head too much because he lingers at perfect punching range without sliding away at a safe distance . If Jack has trained to avoid the big left hand of AS then I can see the fight going the distance but Jack tends to fight one way and takes too many unnecessary punches so that could easily be another KO win for AS . Jack is 34 and at the tail end of his prime , Stevenson is 40 . Maybe Stevenson will have lost a step , Jack should go for the body shots as much as head shots and fight in close . The longer it goes the better Jack's chances are .
I'm not knocking him at all. I'm just saying he hasn't fought the guys ranked at the very top of the division yet, but neither has Jack, meaning it remains to be seen how they'll do when they face the very best LHW has to offer. Should Jack beat Stevenson I will credit him for beating one of the very top guys, even if Adonis' age plays a factor. I'm actually pretty high on Gvozdyk, but I'm just not sure he beats Kovalev, Bivol, Beterbiev, Stevenson, or Jack. He very well could and I'd be glad to see him do it.
Gvozdyk has fought actual contenders. Not only that but a common oponent on several top LHWs resume in Gonzalez and Chilemba. We have as good of a guage on how well Gvozdyk does against the other top LHWs as you can get without actually fighting them. You're right that you can't guage Jack as hes only fought Cleverly who is a shell of his former self but that isn't the case with Gvozdyk. To this day nobody has handled Chilemba as well as Gvozdyk. Kovalev a year earlier had a lot of trouble with him and Alvarez won a controversal decision. Gvozdyk completely handled him.
I think Stevenson will knock Jack out, but Kovalev, Bivol, Beterbiev,Gvozdyk would all knock both Stevenson and Jack out easily................
