Stevenson is trying to one-up Pascal. Couldn't care less about Kovalev. Not a duck.

HE ISNT DUCKING KOVALEV, stop saying this you dont know anything behind the scenes. The guy is 35 years old its his time to get the best fights meaning the BEST MONEY if he doesnt do that at 35 he wont do it later on.... He isnt 25 anymore.

Jesus lord, this fight will happen but in late 2014 or 2015 just get over it. Stop lacking so much respect to Adonis who has had it hard because some guys have ducked him or understimated him. Chad Dawson being one of them.

I'll concede that passing up Kovalev to fight Hopkins/Shumenov is the smart business thing to do. That said, a duck is a duck. He could've just as easily fought Kovalev in the fall and had the fight with Hopkins there after, if he believed he'd beat Kovalev anyways.

What would a duck do, fight a 50 year old man, or fight a guy who is in his prime and possesses the power to kill people in the ring?

KO'ing Hopkins would A) end Bernard, B) be something most people thought impossible, and C) give ammo to Stevenson is saying he's the man in town, Pascal not being able to KO Dawson and losing to Hopkins.

Fine, combination of one-upping Pascal and making the most money possible.

In QC, land of Stevenson's fanbase, Hopkins >>*Kovalev. More money.

    :deal

World champion is a very loose term in the era. When was the last time Ward defended his belt outside the US? Oh right, he never did. Stevenson is staying put because 21 000 people can fill the Bell Centre - wouldn't make that happen anywhere else. He therefore caters to the QC crowd, who recognize Hopkins a shitload more than Kovalev.

    :deal

Reverse that for one second. The Kovalev fight will always be there, the Hopkins fight won't. The clock is ticking on the Hopkins fight, hence the need to get it now.

What's your point? It's called virtual cash for a reason. I'm doing fine in real like thank you very much.

Pascal is still renegotiating contract terms with GYM. He can't sign to fight anybody right now, same for Ward. You can say it's stupid all you want, it just proves you fail to understand Stevenson & Pascal's perspective.

...and Stevenson is perfectly fine with that. He doesn't give a rat's ass about what people outside of QC think of him. The money he makes comes mostly from QC PPV; 75 000 buys @ $70 a piece = $5 250 000, he might see 3-4M out of that.

:lol:I swear Drozzy, Stevenson could fight Hopkins and then Dawson II(so he could vanquish the last guy who beat Hopkins) and then retire and you'd say it was all part of the plan so he could make a daring comeback and make more money doing it.
The guy has pushed this fight off 3 times since his last fight in November. Now he's possibly pushed it off the cliff by signing with Showtime.

Yes or no. DO you think he wants to fight Kovalev. If so, what makes you say so?

Best money would have been to fight Kovalev and THEN go fight the GBP crowd. Money argument doesnt hold water at all.

Come on Des, I didn't allude to Dawson II here.

No he doesn't, and it's a moot point here. What he wants, really really really wants (can you imagine Stevenson surrounded by the Spice Girls?), is to A) beat the man who humiliated Pascal in Montreal, and B) make more money than Pascal in doing so. Kovalev will be there for another 5-6 years, he can wait his turn as he doesn't have a fanbase and is largely unknown to Stevenson's crowd. Hopkins won't be there forever, it's **** or get off the pot.

    Nope. :deal

Exactly! Then he'd dispose of him by the second or third round.

I didn't read the whole thread, but whoever thinks Stevenson is ducking Kovalev is crazy! Stevenson is like an animal, he doesn't care about Kov! He's looking for HUGE paydays and that's it. If KOV can't produce a big payday, why bother (his mentality).

Of course us as fans would love to see Ape vs Kov!
