Going to be 38 in a couple months and haven't had a big fight in years. Why doesn't he just man up and face Kovalev on HBO? He's no longer the A-side and his prime will probably be over soon...if not already over. He had his chance to fight Kovalev and he bailed. His fight ratings has been sh*t in the last couple fights (600k and 350k). Boxing fans has been talking more about Beterbiev than him lately. At this rate, he's going to fade away slowly into retirement and no one will notice. What a waste.
Stevenson pulled out the first time he had a chance to fight Kovalev, but not the second time. He did go to purse bid to face Kovalev that second time, Kovalev who even paid to be mandatory for Stevenson's belt, but Kovalev backed out. WBC had agree for a 50/50 split (contrary to the 70/30 usual one for a mandatory fight). Kovalev knew he was going to a purse bid after his fight against Pascal but then signed an exclusive contract with HBO when he knew they were getting to a purse bid. They could have tried to win the bid, but instead they backed out of the bid. So what's left for Stevenson? Pascal is with HBO and wants to get KTFO by Kovalev in a second fight. Beterbiev and Stevenson have the same promoter who doesn't want them to fight each other. Braehmer?
shame, I was looking forward to seeing Kovalev taunting the pimp after Stevenson falls flat on his back from a Kovalev R hand during the fight
He's only got a handful of fights left in him anyway, and only 2/3 at the top level. I think he's waiting for Ward to move up and fight him as he probably fears the Russian lads. Take a guaranteed whooping over 12 rounds over a potential life changing KO loss...yes please
:deal kova****s cry for days when Stevenson backs out the first fight due to signing with Haymon, but when Kovalev pulls out due to similar circumstances "Stevenson needs to man up", gtfo.
Yeah I heard that too. Beyonce tried to sue Al as well apparently. I'm sure those differences could be put aside though as if Ward moved up it would be a fight that would make most sense, besides the HBO/Showtime divide.
Haymon manages his fighters well but sum not so well for example stevenson n also quillin .Stevenson missed out on his pay day
The Kovalev camp wanted to negotiate, but the Stevenson camp wasn't interested. Duva knew she couldn't outbid Haymon, so why bother? The point was to open talks and one party didn't wanted to talk. Kovalev has always wanted to fight Stevenson, but Stevenson never wanted it. The reality is that Stevenson's becoming irrelevant and he still think he call the shots. Kovalev is almost universally recognized as the man at 175 and he's 3X the draw. He really doesn't need Stevenson anymore.
