Il n'y aura finalement pas de combat entre le Longueuillois Adonis Stevenson et le Russe Sergey Kovalev, cet été.
La présidente du groupe Main Events Kathy Duva a indiqué à TVA Sports que le Groupe Yvon Michel a refusé la dernière offre qui leur avait été présentée afin d'organiser un duel d'unification des titres.
Les deux camps avaient jusqu'à mardi pour s'entendre, avait rapporté TVA Sports, lundi. Mme Duva disait alors envisager un plan B.
«Je crois que tout dépendra de Stevenson et s’il veut vraiment se battre ou non», avait-elle prévenu.
La date du choc anticipé, prévu en juin, sera vraisemblablement octroyée au Portoricain Miguel Cotto.
Pour le moment, Kovalev (28-0-1, 25 K.-O.) a rendez-vous avec Jean Pascal (30-3-1, 17 K.-O.), ce samedi 30 janvier, au Centre Bell.
Kovalev est présentement le champion des poids mi-lourds des organisations WBO, WBA et IBF.
Stevenson (27-1-0, 22 K.-O.) détient pour sa part le titre WBC.

The group's president Kathy Duva Main Events told TVA Sports that Groupe Yvon Michel refused the latest offer that was presented to them to arrange a duel unifying titles.

The two sides had until Tuesday to reach agreement, TVA Sports was reported Monday. Ms. Duva said then consider a plan B.

"I think everything depends on Stevenson and he really wants to fight or not," she had warned.

The date of the early shock, expected in June, is likely to be granted to Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto.

For now, Kovalev (28-0-1, 25 KOs) has an appointment with Jean Pascal (30-3-1, 17 KOs), this Saturday, January 30 at the Bell Centre.

Kovalev is currently the champion heavyweight WBO organizations, WBA and IBF.

Stevenson (27-1-0, 22 KOs) for his part holds the WBC title.

 

Did Stevenson hesitate?
Listening to Mrs. Duval, Stevenson (27-1, 22 KOs) is possibly reluctant to defend his WBC light heavyweight against one who holds the other three belts (WBO, WBA, IBF).
At the end of December, it was suggested that "the will of Stevenson will tip the balance" in the negotiations.
"I think everything depends on Stevenson and he really wants to fight or not," she reiterated Monday.
"We did everything in our power and we have met all the requirements (for the fight materializes)."
