I don't think so either, not anymore if it ever was. Maybe if they bolstered it with a really strong undercard but the fight by itself, I don't see it. Especially not on dual network, they'll be disappointed by numbers if it ever happens IMO.
I think it has plenty of PPV appeal, and does better than GGG-DL. I'd guesstimate it at around 300k. After all, they are the 2 titlists in the division, it would be for all the marbles and the fight has built for probably about the optimal amount of time. The PPV would not be huge, but I think respectable. But yeah, its high 7-figure - maybe low 8 figure revenue fight. Anyone who thinks it should be a joint HBO-SHO fight needs to realize that only ever happens for 9-figure megafights. If the fight revenue isn't projected to be over at least 100million don't even think about HBO and SHO doing a joint.
The problem is potentially burning a bridge with showtime by excluding them and also doing business with a rival network which previously banned all Haymon advised fighters, not to mention the way they bad mouthed Stevenson because he chose a more lucrative route. Flip flopping networks is not a good look, HBO despises him and if he loses Showtime will in all likelihood rid themselves of him.
Duva ran from her own purse bid. Hopkins took less to fight Kovalev than Stevenson.:deal He saw Kovalev as less of a threat:yep
Again Yvon Michel but the blame on Duva. Yvon Michel was quick to respond to allegations of Duva. "Adonis and I wanted this fight and I wanted to make a mega success, he said in a phone interview with the" Journal de Montreal ". But against, what Kathy did not say is that she never tried to convince HBO to participate in the project while Showtime was ready to embark. " "The clan Kovalev had made us a very good offer, but ours was even better. In particular they were offered a 50-50 revenue sharing. It's a shame it does not work and we do not understand why they refused. "
The thing is that a good fight doesn't necessarily translate into PPVs, I think at one point when the hype was really high for many of us, it'd have sold that well. But now, it's not built up, it's died down. That's the way I feel at least.
Are we going to lose kovalev v ward to kovalev v barrera ? I don't know enough about barrera except his trainer has been abel, that's a great trainer. Which fights of barreras should I check out ? Anyone know
Barrera is a respectable upper-tier prospect level guy, with a good AM pedigree. He is Cuban, but can punch a bit. His best win is stopping Karo Murat in his last fight. Murat is best known for being beaten by BHop in the main event of the Quillin/Rosado card, having a win and a draw with Campillo and being stopped by Cleverly. So while unproven, with his AM pedigree and decent punching ability he is by far the best guy Ward has faced since Froch and will be at least a live body.
