Stevenson is FRANCOPHONE. Barely more able in English than Kovalev. :deal Quebec survey, pre-30 Nov: Froch - 48% Hopkins - 19% Winner of Pascal/Bute - 17% Ward - 10% Kovalev - 7% This^^ About 5% of the crowd actually understands English. It's fukkin Quebec City, not Montreal!!!!!!!!!!! :deal :deal Also, Max made fun of Kovalev "Ah-ha, still working on that English aren't you?"
It sure came across that way. Kovalev? :scaredas: Um, I know my fans right here in my own backyard want to see me fight Hopkins or Froch. No one applauds. No one cheers. Stevenson now st st stuttering to finish the interview...
half of you are ******ed. Froch and bhop are bigger bucks AND they both recently beat bute and pascal. there would be huge interest in superman getting revenge. IF HBO put some huge $$$ on the table and then he said no . . . you might have a case. however, these guys fight for a living and they have to make as much money as they can while they can
Adonis Stevenson beats up girls and girlie guys like Toni Bellew but won't fight real man like Sergey Kovalev.
That's exactly where Stevenson was going with his comments. He understands that Canada can be a very lucrative market and they get behind their fighters. They love Bute so Froch and Pascal are their enemies for obvious reasons. Now they like Hopkins a lot because he beat Pascal. Now Stevenson figures that if he beats Hopkins then he can replace him as Canada'a #2 hero and set up some big money revenge matches with Pascal and Froch. There is no fear in him for Kovalev. He got plans and while Kavalev is part of them, he is not his immediate concern. If Kovalev is as good as everybody believes then he ain't going nowhere and will be there for final countdown. As a matter of fact, he needs Stevenson more than the other way around cause he don't have a game plan. If he wants to shorten the wait then all he has to do is get to some of them guys before Stevenson. Shut down the escape routes, and in no time they will be looking at each other with no place to go but through each other and that's when the **** hits the fan. HBO is just trying to shorten up **** for their own benefit. They busy trying to catch Showtime. Some people are not instant gratification or fast food people and would rather enjoy an eight course meal. I want the fight to happen but I want it to build and marinate and develop some history and drama so that when they do throw down, watching it would be like sitting down to an eight course meal. :bbb
SRL says the same thing when everyone was pressing for him and Tommy Hearns to fight. Ray said he would fight if the money is right, nothing is wrong with that considering one fighter is still in a coma after his fight. Fighter deserved to be paid for tuff fight not peanuts.
This about sums it up. I don't think anyone would take a Froch fight seriously, especially since Stevenson is so much larger. Hopkins has a name, but I don't see any interest in that fight. An argument could be made for the Pascal vs. Bute winner as a justifiable money fight. However, the fight fans want most, and the fight HBO wants is Stevenson vs. Kovalev.
He is paying his bills, or did you not notice that the fight was on HBO and Max works for them? Do you think it is an accident HBO scheduled this double-header?
I agree, Kovalev will get his shot! He is the real deal and will not be going anywhere. It may work out better for Kovalev if Stevenson does not fight him next year. Stevenson is more likely to lose to Bhop,Pascal,Bute,or froch than Kovalev would be. If stevenson does lose Kovalev gets away with not fighting a dangerous puncher and looking like he wanted the fight the whole time.
If Hopkins ducked Kovalev why wasn't Hopkins stripped of the title? The fight had been ordered by the IBF to be arranged by the 17th July, the IBF ordered this on the 6th July. Hopkins confirms he will face Kovalev on the same day. Kovalev announces he would fight Cleverly on the 7th July. Kovalev's team didn't even attempt to negotiate a fight with Hopkins, though this was mainly due to the fact they had almost finalised a fight with Cleverly. Stop making crap up to discredit fighters you dislike.
I don't think it is fear given his background. More like he thinks Kovalev would more likely KO him than Bute or Pascal or Hopkins. He may also lose to the other 3, but most likely on decision and still retain his marketability.
