Alvarez was paid an undisclosed amount to Step Aside. Also a part of the deal with a 5 fight deal with a minimum of 100,000k for each fight.

The talk is that Stevenson vs Badou jack could be next. this would be the best opponent Stevenson has had since Tony Bellew.

Stevenson is actually holding that belt hostage.

Michel put a lot of pressure on Alvarez to step aside.

I don't know what the final figures were but I do know an earlier offer:

150k if Alvarez enforced the mandatory
$1 M total if Alvarez stepped aside, fought and beat someone else (Bivol was suggested), and faced the Jack-Stevenson winner afterwards. Although Bivol likely beats Alvarez, he'd still be getting much more money that way around.

$150,000 to fight for a title IN YOUR HOMETOWN? With Canadian taxes?

Damn, no wonder he took the deal.

Alvarez will make 100k minimum for his next 5 fights, it was pretty much said if he lost to stevenson he wouldnt be re-signed or at least was threatened. Yvon Michel the promoter of both is very close friends with the WBC supervisor. That's probably why Stevenson will never be foreced to fight his number 1. stevenson hasnt fought his number 1 in 4 years and it was Bellew.

Wasn't Sukhotsky a WBC mandatory? Still a long time between mandatories, either way.

If Alvarez wants to be champ he should drop his promoter and force the fight

I have no idea. if stevenson fights someone better than alvarezz than this time the step aside is okay to me, if he doesn't then same BS as before. stevenson can make good money fighting nobodies though. Maybe Jack could beat Stevenson but if a shot bute can win 3 or 4 rounds vs Jack. I wouldnt be surprised if stevenson can win.

if Gvozdyk becomes mandatory you know Stevenson is never gonna face him he'll be vacating that belt real quick.

the stevenson of 3 years ago probably would cause real problems for the current Gvozdyk too many angles and a very trick south paw.

but talking in the now if it goes past 3 rounds Stevenson might not have the stamina anymore he is old and hasnt been past the 4th in a billion years.

Stevenson is good & powerful but is getting old and doesn't seem to wanna face the best and Gvozdyk looks like a solid all rounder legit beast

Jack is at least a legitimate contender at 175 now and looked really good in stopping and retiring Cleverly. So, while it sucks for Alvarez, I wouldn't have an issue with Adonis taking that fight. Kind of a lateral step from Storm, but not a step backward in terms of quality.

He was a massive underdog beat dawson, then people called it a fluke and said cloud would beat him, then he went on to fight Bellew who I think is honestly pretty good. then after that nothing. He's honestly good enough to KO the 6th-10th best guy at the weight. but he never faced top 1-5 and 175 is VERY top heavy. Stevenson is able to fight on the inside at least but he has way less power there. Him vs Kovalev would have been great in 2015 because it would be great outside fighter vs great outside fighter. both are amazing at keeping distance a lot of people would disagree with me but I think Kovalev is actually better at keeping distance. Stevenson movement is really good. no point of even speculating because the fight wont happen.

I think that Jack could be a dark horse. vs some of the strong outside fighters. He is really talented at getting on the inside and lands so many body shots a fight. of course he could get knocked out in the crossfire. for the top 5 at 175 jack would probably be the best active opponent.
