Doesn't that lesson also apply to the guy you are quoting? Or does it only work when it fits YOUR beliefs? Here's what Manny Steward said after the Pac-Cotto fight: This content is protected Mayweather completely shut him (Marquez) down. Could he completely shut down Manny too? This content is protected He possibly could. This content is protected because the one thing that Manny has, he has balance, he has rythm. Marquez has no footwork. And Manny can punch from all the weird angles. I mean all the knockdowns in most of his fights are not even standard punches. He finds gaps. Unbelievable... that's a gift that you can't even teach.... before this dialogue, Steward also said "Manny is an ATG as far as I'm concerned. I put him up there with Ali and Robinson". :deal Don't like what he says? Post your boxing credentials and we'll compare them with Manny Steward's resume and I'll try not to die laughing. :yep
Steward also said after May-Mosley, that no one is beating Floyd unless they're highly skilled AND bigger than him. Floyd said he's better than Sugar Ray Robinson. Muhammad Ali also thought he's the best boxer ever, but he is not. Everything an elite prizefighter or trainer says MUST be true because of experience, right? Who are you to disagree? You're just a filipino keyboard warrior. The point of what I said was that people should do their own research instead of quoting anyone who's respected and citing it as supreme truth, because they don't know what the **** they are talking about and can't form their own thoughts. It's blindly following. The context is very important. Someone like Floyd obviously knows he's talking out of his AZZ by saying he's the best, even his trainer has no problem admitting Sugar is the undisputed Greatest of All Time. Steward likes pacman. If you look at skills and resumes, Duran is superior to emmanuel.
But Leonard is, and Duran beat him...Point being, Pac's speed (which is his biggest advantage against his opponents) wont help him against Duran.
The problem with Steward is that he is a fair weather commentator, and always has been. Listen to the fights he comments on. If something unexpected happens, "this is turning out just as I predicted." "This is just what I expected to happen." Wright beating down Mosley, Wright beating down trinidad, Mausa koing harris if Steward was there, Mayorga koing forrest. It doesn't matter what happens, Steward expected it. I could swear he has changed his tune in the middle of a fight when the momentum shifts (to steal a Max Kellerman interview phrase). Every fight - just as he expected. The fair weather commentator is making another fair weather comment. Is Pac greater than Duran? No - the longevity of Duran's success, with more than 30 fights without a loss after winning the lightweight titles (but only 12 defenses), the first man to beat Leonard, the first man to go the distance with Hagler after he attained the title and only losing by a few points, the first guy to beat Davey Moore, the guy who beat Barkley, the guy who beat Jorge Castro as an old old man (Jorge Castro beat Derrick Harmon a few years ago - and while this may not be a big deal to you guys, Derrick is a huge, beastly, strong, comparitively young man who weighs over 200 pounds in between fights. Duran beat Jorge as an old man after decades of fighting) The problem is CONSISTENCY. Duran had a lot of off nights. Pac has not had one since the first Morales fight, and to be honest he has only gotten better. No one takes Pacs punches too good, and honestly most of Duran's knock outs even at light weight came in like the thirteenth or fourteenth round. Sure, Duran was a relentless attacker, but Pac has been able to starch guys who just don't get starched. In a head to head match up, there's a chance Duran has one of his lapses. Pac is dangerous to ANYBODY whose chin is not cast iron because of the variety and speed and tenacity of his tireless attack coupled with his real joy in tearing people up. Having said that, Duran accomplished more over a longer period of time. I can't see an old fat slow Pac beating Jorge Castro with boxing skills. Duran had GREAT skills later in his career to compensate for the waning of his speed, drawing his head back so that the punches barely reached him just as Mayweather did more rapidly and more visibly against Ndou toward the end. If anything late Duran has better defense than current Pac, but his offense had been blunted by lethargy and age. Fast footwork troubled him, as Lang and Leonard and even Comacho know. Pac has fast feet.
How many times has Pac fought a fighter in the caliber of Leonard? How many times has Pac fought a fighter whos as fast as him or faster???
I agree with the poster above, Duran hated training, contrary to Pac, he had a bad lifestyle that caught with him after the Leonard victory. In a H2H of their best forms, Duran has too much for Pac, his chin and defense are better. By the way, i had to look up in the dictionnary for "Joyboy" ; i always had suspected it regarding emmanuel, but what are your proofs when you say "certified"?
I understand all that. I've been following the sport myself since Leonard-Hearns I when I was 9 years old. Of course I can form my own thoughts and opinions about fighters. My posts were about how some here attack an otherwise respected figure in boxing when they say something not fitting to their own beliefs. I've had one poster argue with me that Bert Sugar is not a qualified boxing analyst after he put Pac in the Top 20 of his all time list. He then said a more respectable voice to listen to in the sport regarding ATG status was Manny Steward. When I told him Manny put Pac alongside Ali and Robinson, he changed his tune and made all these excuses to then discredit Manny Steward after he praised him just a few minutes back :rofl. Do you see what I'm trying to get at? As for myself, and have posted in the past, I still have Duran ahead of Pac, but only by a liittle margin by now, because Duran had a longer career past Pac's current age. After Pac wins a few more fights in dominant fashion against the likes of Margarito, Williams, Martinez and Floyd if he ever grew some balls, I would have no more reservations in putting Pac ahead of Duran. And you all should know Pac has a very good chance in doing this.
Wrong! Manny > Duran .................................... Floyd This content is protected >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
