Steward will improve cotto in a lot of ways it'll take more than one fight though. I believe Cotto lost focus lately he needs somebody like manny to put him back on track.

Though it's a great idea, it's still too little too late. The damage has already been done.

If he can fix some of the blatant technical flaws, he can round out Cotto's skills and let him shine with his beastly talent like he did before the shattering losses that now make people ride him off as shot.

I said prior to Margarito. And anyway I don't think the uppercut was more damaging than other punches Pac was throwing. Pac was hitting him with everything. Cotto is somewhat vulnerable to uppercuts but I just don't think it's his biggest problem nor as much of an issue as people make out. If this glitch in his defence is so bad why did no one on this board ever mention it until they saw Margarito repeatedly land his likely loaded uppercuts?

I wasn't suggesting Cotto had a granite chin, it's clearly below average for an elite level fighter.

So Chef does this mean you will be in the same vicinity as Cotto, and possibly even cooking his daily meals during training?

Manny isn't gonna change Cotto. He's not the type to change a fighter, if the fighter is already successful. Nothing wrong with Cottos technique.

The problem has always been his corners inability to have backup plan when Plan A fails.

Look at the Pacquiao fight, his corner kept telling him to do the same thing. Even though it obviously wasn't working. Same with the Margarito fight.

As far as Steward's type of fighters. He's trained Holyfield and Michael Moorer. Those aren't typical Steward fighters.

i know a lot more than you biatch.. boxing is not any other sport... so a trainer doesnt make that much of a difference.. steward is nothing special when it comes to boxing trainers all his doing is living of his reputation.. there're hundreds of trainers as good or better than him.. and cotto at this point in his career aint learning anything new.. all he needs is to work hard and dedicate himself to the gym and thats all on him not a trainer that cant speak his language or relate to him.. this match is not going to work

It would have been very interesting had he gotten Steward for his fight against Pac. Steward against Roach, that would have been an added attraction.

Anyway, Steward should improve or atleast boost Cotto's confidence as a boxer.

I think its great, though too little too late in terms of long term significance.

Cotto has always needed someone to give him a kick up the arse and actually work on his technical flaws, rather than hangeron associate types who are afraid to say anything he doesn't want to hear.
