Geale and Monroe Jr, I'd understand. But Tor Hamer? He quit when he was losing, he quit when he was winning, he quit when he wasn't taking any serious punishment. That guy should've just chosen a different profession.
A man must always know his limitations, but one should not be taking up prize fighting for a career if you are a quitter, twice in Geales case.
I'm sorry man but Tor did quit and disgracefully so lol. It's one thing to quit when taking a beating and you've had enough, I have absolutely no problem with that and it's another to quit after taking a couple of punches.
I agree. They're taking punishment much harsher than the vast majority of us would be able to take...
Good thread, MVC! People that b itch about boxers quitting probably have never even sparred before. Boxing isn't supposed to be a fight to the death of one of the combatants.
when its proven to you in the ring you are outgunned and outskilled with literally no chance to win. add to that you're fatigued as hell and hurt, calling it a day is smart unless you want to end your career right there and then. not sure most on here understand how hard those gloves really are, you're not getting hit with 16oz workout gloves with much extra padding, you're getting drilled by hard ass gloves and its bad to keep taking it when you don't have anything to defend yourself. too many fighters keep trying when its clear they shouldn't be fighting any longer that night. the people on here that bash fighters for halting the punishment and true cowards, they just want to see fighters hurt for good
This. If the fighter gave it his all then quitting or calling it a day is OK. Take De La Hoya vs Pac. Oscar was getting hit with EVERTHING. Plus he was weight drained and was old and shot. No problem there. Daniel Geales (sp) was kd'ed twice in the 4th round, he could of done a number of things....held for dear life, ran until he cleared his head, took a knee, even pulled a Cotto and Tito and punched low in the ***** to buy him some time. He quit twice in two title fights...This wasn't a 4 round club fight. He shouldn't fight for a title ever again. And yes I sparred and fought, I know how it feels to have clubbing shots come at my head when Im hurt.
I can accept fans call a boxer a quitter if you quit for no reason like Duran Hopkins etc, but saying quitter a fighter that is going to get killed or brain damage for quit or going down on His own to avoid more punishment is an embarrassment should get in there and take that punishment instead of the fighter that is trying to put a show for us. Example Cotto vs Margarito
Geale not only has himself to think about, he's got a family and kids to think about you dense t w a t.
