I thought Stevens looked impressive in the first round....but after Brinkley stood up to his best shots, he seemed to lose his drive and Brinkley took over from there. But this was a surprising entertaining fight and Brinkley showed his toughness and determination, to the point of almost stopping Stevens twice in the fight. But I think Stevens is still young enough to re-build from this, so I would not stick a fork in him just yet, but as for Brinkley he seems to be heading towards and title shot and a chance of scoring another upset.
I was surprised that Stevens was the favorite. Brinkley has won a lot of fights. He is a streaking fighter.
He does have a chance, as long as it isn't against Bute.... Spina knocked Brinkley out with a body shot... Lucian throws good body punches.. Ask Donny McCrary, Fulgenico Zuniga, and Librado Andrade... And any other person Lucian has knocked out or hurt badly with those left hands to the body,,, Jesse will make it a fight, but thats about it...
In my mind he lost after they got into a brawl after the round was over in the 5th. Then Stevens realized he was actually in a fight and he was not going to blow him out. That was the turning point for me
Stevens was terrible. But then again that is his usual. Even fighting a perfeect fight Brinkley didn't look extraordinaryly impressive but he did do good, even the slightest lateral movement gives Stevens trouble in setting up his punches. Brinkley's workrate is his best asset.
The best part of the whole fight was when Stevens stood there on the ropes and waved Jesse in, and then Brinkley came right in and knocked Stevens on his arse!
