Steiglitz is Russian, though is based in Germany. Still how can you say Steiglitz has avoided tough fights? Steiglitz although suffering a couple of losses has beaten Berrio, undefeated Gutknecht, undefeated Balzsay and fought away losing to Andrade in America. Steiglitz also beat undefeated Wilaschek who might not have beaten anyone of note but hadnt been close to being beaten before then. Steiglitz was also the away fighter in most of those fights
Havent said different, but noted he had, had some tough fights, fighting undefeated world class fighters away. I dont know why that fight didnt happen, there could be other reasons than ducking, I dont know. Steiglitz wouldnt be the first fighter to not fight for a big pay day against a tough rival. Hopkins wouldnt fight Calzaghe years back for a massive payday
Look at the WBO rankings. Dirrell and Abraham are number 1 and 2. They are not availble. Jean-Paul Mendy is number 3 and Renan St-Juste is number 4. One of these 2 could become his mandatory. Stieglitz has an optional in March, will have time for another optional before facing an easy mandatory, leading him towards 2 other easy optionals. He already said no to Bute, and that would have been a unification and a big payday. I don't think Kessler can offer enough money to convince his promoter to face him. The only good news: if he faces Jean-Paul Mendy, he wouldn't be Bute's mandatory.
Has Mendy announced when he'd be fighting next? I think he's waiting to see what Bute will do after March 19th. If St-Juste beats Miranda, which isn't a done deal by any mean, he'd be in good position to get the nod as official #1 contender at the WBO. Stieglitz is toast, and that's on the short to mid term. Too much competition at 168, he can't avoid them all.
