I like this idea, the heavyweights in UFC don't seem to be a match for miocic I say why not and no Joshua couldn't learn takedown defense in a few weeks. maybe at a novice level. it takes a whole different skill set and balance and coordination to stop an elite takedown artist
How about redundant and pedantic? Nice play by play; You are a shoe in to replace Lampley when he retires.
Full disclosure: I may have confused Babality with Bogotazo. is Bogotazo the die hard Floyd fan? I screw up at times and lose track of what whack job is posting what on these forums. I could just check myself but I have grown lazy and obstinate, losing my filter for caring what anyone thinks of my posts.
Kevin Willis, my favorite delusional fan girl, you would be suprised how bad the "average/decent HW" in MMA really is on the ground, even in the UFC it's some with very limited ground. If you said the average/decent wrestler it would be accurate but it's few of those in HW MMA. AJ would absolutely destroy the average/decent HW in MMA with a few weeks of training. Now, a few weeks of training won't stop Stipe's takedowns but AJ still have better chance of beating Stipe in MMA than Stipe have in beating AJ in boxing
I wrestled D-1 in college on a full ride and did BJJ/Grappling for over 5 years when I lived in California. I know first hand what MMA HW's can do on the ground and a boxer like joshua would at least two years of grappling to compete with average HW's. Right now a guy like Roy Nelson could do anything he wanted to with him on the ground including getting him there with ease. Although Nelson is still a top tier HW for the most part and is an accomplished grappler. You are in Las Vegas, right: Go train with past their prime Frank Mir and Roy Nelson with your boxing background and see how well you do on the ground with them.
Lol, I trained with both of them for years, both are very good on the ground and not an average HW at all and those guys would take AJ down without a doubt. But how about those guys, in the UFC, that doesn't have the ground game they do or any ground at all? If you have the experience that you say you have you should know better.
You trained with them for years? Where did you train BJJ/grappling/MMA and are you a promoted belt. I know in the past you said you boxed but I do not recall you mentioning grappling or MMA. All HW's in the UfC know what they are doing on the ground. Even the ones who are considered poor are at least purple belt quality at any BJJ academy.
I boxed&kickboxed as a pro, but majority of my pro fight is in MMA, I never fought in the UFC but I fought in every other major MMA org. I trained with Nelson before he even turned pro. I am a high lever grappler. I trained with the elite in boxing, kickboxing, MMA and BJJ. All HW's in UFC do not know what they doing on the ground and the "average/decent" have no idea. You would be surprised.
I am a brown belt in BJJ got it from Paragon Santa Barbara and have also trained with elite grapplers. I have also rolled with MMA guys some of which may not have been considered elite ground guys but they all knew what they were doing and there is no way Anthony Joshua would beat any of them with a few weeks training like you claimed. It would take Joshua at least a year before he feels remotely comfortable with ground work. This should be obvious to someone with your level of professional fight experience and training in multiple disciplines. It is also possible that regardless of how strong or conditioned of a boxer Joshua may be, he might just plain suck at grappling and not want to go through the work it takes to improve. Assuming joshua would just pick up another fight art like a natural is incredibly specious.
I think you overestimate the level of grappling some of this guys have, I don't think you understand how bad most of this guys are on the ground, especially HW! Some are great of course but some of the scariest guys have next to no ground and would be tapped by the "average/decent" purple belt. It's a few UFC heavyweights that never wore a gi.
My point is that even HW's with poor ground games are good enough to dominate guys with no experience and it would take much more than a month of training to close this gap to a point where they could simply surivive for a while let alone get anything accomplished. What was your weightclass when you fought MMA?
Josh Barnett is one of the best ground guys still at HW. From what I've heard of Miocic... he's VERY good at controlling and defending subs on the mat.
Remember this animal? This content is protected He also beat Sperry in that big 'Super Match' the year after the Barnett match I believe.
