...also, theres no way you'd be in hospital for 2 days with dehydration. After hooking you up to an IV drip, you'd be completely hydrated in an hour or so.
I read too much into his stopping Arreola, the King loss and Austin fight were more telling. I do think Stiverne is a solid fighter still, just not elite.
Stiverne was dehydrated because he was chasing Wilder nearly every minute of every round, throwing bombs and missing, and he weighed 240 pounds. Exhaustion is all it was.
239 pounds is actually light by Stiverne standards. He was 248 when he beat Arreola over 12 and has weighed as much as 258 in his career
You can't tell me the Arreola fight had the same kind of pace as the Wilder fight. Stiverne was also missing a hell of a lot against Wilder. When you load up and you miss, it takes more energy from your body more so then when you load up and connect.
Notice how Don King's name appears in every sentence. It's obviously a ploy to make people think that Stiverne is actually a good fighter, and not a cab driver. Most boxing fans are idiots so they'll take the bait and buy Don King's next garbage fight. "Stiverne lost because he forgot to drink water!" That's what they are asking you to believe.
Sounds like face saving. Have we even proof he was in hospital for that? Knowing Don king, he may have 'persuaded' the doctor to make a false statement. If it is the then it's no excuse. They all talk about one shot, put it all on the line, fighting for the family etc - then claim to walk in dehydrated? ? Its like a tour de France ridee claiming he didn't win cause he forgot to oil his chains.......no one wants to hear it. You have world class trainers, dieticians, all you need to perform at optimum. People are paying top money to see guys at their best. You have an obligation to enter the ring prepared or not at all. Unless there was a virus or some physiological issue with Stiverne, claiming dehydration seems unacceptable for an elite athlete.

Stiverne was a fat plodding pudding, obviously had zero training camp. I'm not surprised he's wrecked after going 12 rounds.
You're 100% correct, but all it takes is to put out a false piece of information, and the public will have a doubt in their mind. Then when Don King promotes "Bermane Stiverne vs Seth Mitchell" and tells everyone that both fighters are top-level pugilists who just got unlucky against one opponent, the ignorant docile masses of fans will take money out of their pockets and hand it over to Don King. Don will repeat the line about Stiverne not drinking water before the Wilder fight, and people will remember having heard that, and it will reinforce their doubt about that fight. So get ready to see more glorified cab drivers getting hyped by the media and fans alike. Smart gamblers can make a lot of money on these fighters.
Even if that's true, that doesn't count as an excuse in my book. Part of the fight is keeping in shape and training, Slack at those and you pay... Sooner or later. This time sooner.
Yes, Stiverne came too fat in my opinion. 230 was the highest he could afford. He was very passive and thus gave Wilder confidence to punch at will. Too slow and too passive. All due to overweight.
