Stop acting like cotto is that much better than hatton

he did what he had to do to win and i can respect that. BUT we've learned his place in the hierarchy since. he was the right opponent for zoo THAT night. he's a solid 140 pounder, he was a good champion and he was a GREAT personality for the sport. he took his talent much further than could be expected

 

and cotto has a loss against margo who wasn't a great fighter, relative to pac, pbf and koysta. but i admit he came up well short against pac and pbf.

 

absolutely, cotto lost to margo no doubt about it. but the guys that hatton even struggled with, take him down a notch or two

 

i'm not sure who you are refering to with hatton struggling with, i'm guessing you mean collazo? who i agree he did struggle with, having said that collazo would give cotto a good fight.

yes hatton was exposed against 2 p4p #1 fighters who are two of the best fighters of our generation, and cotto quit against a fighter who at the time wasn't even top 25 p4p. and he's yet to fight a fighter who at the time of the fight is a top 10 p4p fighter, pac will be his first.

 

Come one roly, you know saying a lot of things on paper could make one guy look better than the other without it actually being true. Look at their fights, how they handle it, their skills, etc. Miguel Cotto is a better fighter than Hatton. Ricky got knocked out in two fights where he was the one suposed to score the KO or at least the big banger. Put in Ricky with Margo, Shane, Quintana or even Zab and he does pretty bad when compared to Cotto. Who would you put from Ricky's record that Cotto would look worst than Hatton did? And don't say Ricky is too small to fight at welter because we all know that's BS. Ricky is a big jr.welter and an average welterweight.

i think cotto probably does edge it as far as who's the better fighter but the gulf is not as big as people are making out prime for prime. at 140 i would have favoured hatton to beat cotto, although at 147 i'd go with cotto. i don't agree that hatton is an average welterweight, he's got short arms and is short in height, of all those fighters you mention hatton would be giving 7 to 9 inches reach away. in fact in his earlier days i wouldn't have been suprised if he could boil down to lw. and although cotto is not a huge werleterweight he is better suited to ww. so the comparisons against those fighters are unfair. hatton may have fought at ww because he had too but he isn't a natural ww fighter unlike cotto who is.

Good points, Head to Head in their primes many things can happen with different fighters and I actually like Hatton, it's just that as much as some people think Cotto is lightyears apart from Hatton, a lot of Hatton fans feel the same way about Cotto. I still think Hatton is an average sized welter although definitely more on the small side than Cotto, but I don't think it's enough to completely disregard his fights at welter because of his size, besides, the two fights he has lost have been to smaller fighters than himself. He's not that much smaller than Cotto, I think that because Cotto is more versatile he can do better at welter than Hatton.

 

it's debatable that pbf is smaller although he started at a lower weight he's taller with a 7" reach advantage and couldn't make anything under 140 these days, but either way pbf and pac are exceptional and not the rule. cotto is definatly more versatile and does have a defence lol.

 

Hatton body size are very inch to the same as Cotto. Hatton reach is 65 while Cotto is 67 ( 2 inch apart). On height both are like tie 5'7. Cotto body size is not a ww average i don't believe but he's done a great job anyway. Cotto has beaten bigger fighters in Quintana, Mosley, Clottey. Hatton has never beaten fighters that are bigger, stronger then him before. Hatton can only win if he's the bigger man in body size at junior ww in which he can push people around with his hugfest style.

 

this is a joke. hatton was a good face first brawler with good power. cotto was just as strong as hatton with bodyshots but has better defense and much better boxing skills. hatton's brutal bodyshot of castillo was a shell of his former self. i can't see hatton beating a prime castillo. hatton was barely able to beat light punching luis collazo. cotto has been very successful at welterweight vs. the very best at welter, while hatton has not. it's pretty obvious cotto is the much better fighter, but hatton would of been competitive
