Just because you scored it 3 rounds to one guy does not mean the fight cannot be scored the other way. Close rounds are close rounds.

Save for 2 or 3 clear rounds both ways, every round in that fight just about was close.

Kovalev, in his best rounds, had the better jab, dominated the ring, the distance, smothered Ward's inside game and had Ward scrambling. In Ward's best rounds, Kovalev looked cumbersome, chasing him across the ring missing with his jabs and getting tagged clean to the head and body, he managed to rough Kovalev up on the inside in those rounds and he got in and out when necessary. As I say, this was 2 or 3 rounds, at best, for each man.

The rest of the fight? It was won and lost by the odd jab, hook and superior ring generalship from round-to-round. All of which was highly subjective. Does two jabs outweigh dominating the ring and landing a clean right-hook? That's what it comes down to - and to call it a robbery because some people went the other way in the odd round here or there is what's really wrong with boxing.

We now get to see the rematch. Be happy.

If we get a rematch then happy days to all. It is obvious though that roc nation fighters got extra rounds scorred tonight.

    Please refute

IT WAS CLOSE, BUT WARD DID ENOUGH TO NICK IT. NOT A ROBBERY BY ANY MEANS.

Yeh let the yanks have their P4P title victory, we know thats most important. robbing a fighter over there is as common as night an day. However if ward held the lhw titles, we know that kovalev would have to take them from ward by knocking him down in each round. rather than win the fight closely as the champ and still get robbed.

I would say, of the two, I wanted Kovalev to win. I scored it 114-113 Ward. Sometimes, as I said, it isn't much which dictates the round.

114-113 basically means Kovalev won 3 rounds after winning the first 2. I don't think that was the case that's why I felt he won. he banked enough rounds plus the 1pt for the knockdown

Just because a fight is close, doesn't mean the result isn't bad. The fact is that the MAJORITY of all ringside and tv viewers saw the fight to Kovalev, and in fact a wide majority. So far ESPN, HBO, and several of the other reviewers have ALL scored the fight for Kovalev.

This is similar to De La Hoya vs Sturm (like someone else pointed). The actual points weren't too far wide, but it was very clear to virtually all people that Sturm won the fight (even if rounds wise it was somewhat close).

Close fights can be robberies. I'm not saying this was a 100% a robbery, now that I've calmed down, but it's VERY hard to give Ward 7 rounds. Can't wait to rewatch.

Nobody is saying that you can't think Kovalev won - that's what makes it a close fight - just that thinking that doesn't make it a robbery.

4, 6 and 10 I gave him. Could have given him 12 and, if I remember correctly, 8 - but Ward just shaded them for me by the smallest of margins. Wouldn't say a scorecard which gave them both the other way was being unreasonable.

One idiot in another thread said Kovalev won 8 rounds. This is why you can't have legit conversations with stupid people.
