no more impossible than the actual match-up itself. All it means is the time travel would happen a few weeks earlier than the actual fight night. Not unreasonable at all.

It's difficult to judge a fighter by just one fight but when I consider how Ali looked vs Mildenbarger, Bonavena, Wepner and a few others I say that a Klitschko win is not impossible. Then again, I also feel if you put Buster Douglas at his absolute best vs many ATGs he would upset more apple carts than a herd of bulls in downtown Pampalona.

geez i wondered about that too...

actually, at first i thougt, they're either too young, too fat or just had this "I'm a loser but I know boxing so listen to me!" kind of look

few of them are quite good though i must admit :D

Good post TS, humans and their activities evolve.

Nutrition, technique, training methods, have all advanced as people looked to find better and better versions to gain competitive edges.

Not to mention the art of cutting weight. Lots of fighters of today have mastered this and we see bigger fighters fighting at smaller weights so matching them up with past fighters they'd usually have a size advantage.

Very glad you were here to catch this one. I read the thread backwards and thought I was going to have to do it...can't believe the number of people on the board in agreement. Really, really disturbing. Flatly put there are more people who are stupid about boxing in attendance on this board than know the sport. Pretty depressing.

No, he didn't. Sugar Ray Robinson isn't an "anomoly". Robinson isn't a great fighter because he is years ahead of his time and adopted modern techniques that werent in existance yet, he's a great fighter because he beat other great fighters who would succeed in any era. He was held, in his absolute prime, to a debatable decision versus Kid Gavilan, he was beaten in his absolute prime by Jake LaMotta. 5 months after his peak (readily accesable) filmed performance and probably his best performance at MW he was beaten on points by Randy Turpin. Are these three fighters anomolies aswell? Of course not. Some of these posts just leave me dumfounded.

Good post, but you don't go far enough. Ali would be a journeyman today: the sport has moved on and boxers have improved. Look at athletic records. Modern athletes are better and Ali, Foreman and Frazier just couldn't compete today.

    :hey

  12. I agree. I think this every time but I can never be bothered typing it. Cheers.

I completely agree. Boxing is on an entirely different level now. Most of those old guys wouldn't know what hit them. It doesn't diminish their greatness in ANY way though. We still have love and respect for them, but yeah we have to let that "Good ol' Days" stuff go. I don't think the newer generation is of that mindset though.
