Why do we give props to a boxer who fights abroad a lot, and doesn't duck anyone... It's supposed to be normal!

    - Boxing is an international sport, with followers in many countries and boxers from all kinds of nationalities. There are a few countries where there's a lot more money to be made than elsewhere so no problem if boxers go where the money is, but not all the time in your own country/backyard...

    - If you want to call yourself a "World Champion" (ea the best in the world), it's absolutely normal that you fight all comers... Not just the guys that fit your style/possibilties. And also no "the general public doesn't know him", "risk/reward", "I don't have to fight him, because I'm better anyway" crap... You're supposed to be the best, ducking is for losers, if you're a winner than show it!

The ones that don't fight abroad and/or duck other boxers, don't deserve our respect.
If you don't agree with me, please react... If you do, please react also! :good

Pacquiao's achievements compared to Floyd are normal. Floyd has never fought in catchweights except when he was challenged by a prime Juan Manuel Marquez who was pound for pound number two at that time.

Whereas Pacquiao who is obviously overhyped fought a weakened Cotto. :good

I agree that it is supposed to be normal but nowadays its more of a exception then a rule, boxing is a business, its kind of our own fault to be honest, we critisize boxers so badly after a loss that they are affraid to take risks, fear of getting robbed, bad refs etc. that they are hesitant to fight abroad. Thats why fighters who don´t give a **** and fight all comers wherever whenever ddeserve respect because they represent what a boxer should be like. Froch has big balls, so did eddie chambers when he decided to fight dimitrenko in germany and destroyed him.
Andre ward on the other hand got balls the size of marbles they way he is going all sven ottke on the super six.

um yeah it was like that about 20 yrs ago.now everyone wants to get paid, and now you here its a bussiness.so instead of doing the ballsy thing, or manly thing or what ever you want to call it.in this decade boxing is more of bussiness then ever.

  8. Do you hate Sugar Ray Leonard and Roy Jones Junior too? They've had MORE catchweight fights with titles on the line.

Agreed, therefore we do need to give props to fighters who represent what boxing should be all about.

    Agree with the original post.

That is why we need ONE sanctioning body that mandates defenses, rankings, etc..

They should also provide some form of pension and health benefits for retired champions.

You say : Stop giving fighters props for something that's supposed to be normal!

The key word here is supposed. In a perfect world, Pacquiao would have already fought Mayweather. Haye would have lost to a Klitschko. Donaire would have done something meaningful since Darchinyan. Povetkin would be boxing professionnal boxers.

This is the real world, so I don't see any problems with people giving props to the Pascals and Frochs that are around.

I understand what you're saying, and I partially agree with you... But what I really try to say is that boxingfans need to chance their perception.
Fighters who do the right thing a supposed to be the standard, I want boxing fans to be harder on the "slackers" in the division! Thread the goodwilling boxers normal and ridicule or ignore the others.
