Not so much on these boards but I read it on the scene.

Khan is a 140lb fighter who will be at 147lbs within another year or so. Juan Manuel Marquez is a lightweight who could probably still boil down to super featherweight.

That fat **** Shaefer is dying to make this fight because he can't make any more money off of Marquez, so he's willing to sacrifice him. I'm not saying Khan definately beats Marquez but he has ridiculous advantages in size and youth.

Get Khan in with men his own size and weight and let OLDER, SMALLER, LEGENDS get out of the game with their reputations intact IN THEIR OWN ****IN WEIGHT CLASS. The Barrera debacle was bad enough and that win doesn't mean **** on Khan's resume.

You think Khan will be at 147 in a year or so? He's got a big frame on him for a Light-welter, but i haven't heard any stories about him having trouble making weight.

I wouldn't totally disagree mate but check the stats in terms of size, reach, age and weight.

Khan has got the potential to give an ageing Marquez a horrible time and would have more chance of absorbing a smaller mans blows. It isn't close to being a fair fight.

Marquez own trainer advised Marquez against it. Pound for pound there is no comparison (Marquez pisses on Khan) but this is a set up fight and GBP know exactly what they're doing!

I agree with the ts I don't want to seen khan fight these old small guys I'd rather see him with the top guys at 140. And What's up with the two gay avatars above me?

He is still growing and will invariably make a move towards Floyd in the future. Don't right off a match against Mosley either. Remember the GBP connection on this one.

140 is loaded with talent but there are ZERO BIG MONEY fights compared to 147lbs. I think Khan is at Welter by the end of 2011 - just my opinion!

I agree with you, except maybe about JMM boiling down to super featherweight. I'm not even a hundred percent sure how good he'll be taking of the Mayweather weight to fight at 135 again. I mean, if he were in his twenties, sure, but at his age I don't know what it may've done to the man. I just keep thinking of the difference between Roy's fight with Woods, then his fight with Tarver after the move up to Ruiz. And to Chris Byrd dropping down to light heavyweight to fight...I don't remember the kid's name but it was a sad ass kicking Byrd got from him.

Yes, Nacho thinks so too. His words I believe were "Juan does not deserve to be a stepping stone for young up and coming fighters". Marquez is just too small for junior welterweight.

That makes me think he doesn't give his own fighter a good enough chance in there, which worries me for Marquez if he decided to do it. I don't like seeing my favorites being reduced to 'a puncher's chance", let alone against someone who has been working on using their height and reach too not get hit, and one with elite speed. What a terrible match-up it could end up being.

Jones put on 20lbs+ of solid muscle then took it off off which, in his mid thirties, was career suicide. Not the same thing! No offence to JMM, who is a legend, but he was fleshy against Floyd. He makes 135lbs with ease and will trash Diaz far easier than he did the first time.

Yeah just like when he challenged Mayweather, Nacho practically admitted defeat before the bell even rang. With Khan he sees the same thing, as he realizes Khan isn't quite the vulnerable fighter he was at 135. I remember him blasting this match-up and stated him as being "very strong", sort of hinting that he may be too much for the aged Marquez.

A year ago, this fight would have been very interesting. But now, the likely outcome (Khan win) would be bad for both parties involved. Marquez would end up taking punishment from a bigger, faster and stronger opponent. Whilst Khan will recieve a **** load of criticism and hate for beating on an old legend.

But think about what a win for Marquez would do?! That would be an amazing achievement, and would easily propell him beyond Barrera in greatness.

I'm well aware that the amount of weight is much different. But look at the total body weight percentage. Nine pounds for a man his size is a very significant weight difference at about the same age as Jones was (Marquez is 36 now, by the way). This is why the weight classes are way farther apart between middleweight and heavyweight than they are between featherweight and welterweight. If he just got fat to fight Mayweather, that'd be different. He packed on some good muscle, fleshy looking or not. At his age, burning muscle off may have a drastic impact on him. And I think to make weight, he'd have to take a possibly very relevant amount. I am talking about the same thing, sorry to disagree. Perhaps not near the same extent, but it is the same thing.

Amir Khan is a big lad, he'll be at 147lbs one day, no question.

Juan Manuel Marquez doesn't seem to have too many option...unless of course he looks spectacular in the rematch with Diaz.

TG1 I absolutly 100% agree with you. Same goes for Katsidis and every other lightweight they chasing.
