154 dosent have a clear number 1 before williams martinez, and it still dosent have one now... Thats the only point im trying to get across. Until somone clears out the division we wont have a number 1. I dont care about hypothetical match ups, their needs to be a clear unified champ. Until then, their is no number 1 at 154

margo for a time was considered the most avoided because floyd and oscar were the ones avoiding him. williams beat him in a close one, quintana in turn had lost to cotto before he beat williams, and cotto was on a roll still undefeated with his victory over mosley. so no, quintana was not the man at the moment. cotto was.

ok, well, yea, on that i will agree with you. but that makes it interesting because there are a number of highly skilled fighters in 147-154lbs division, so it makes it interesting in who will result in being king of the hill. but i think in sergio's case he is something of a late bloomer where he will find some success late in his career, like JMM and Hopkins. the verdict of some fights do not always reflect the ability of the losing fighter. sergio might not have won and his resume is lacking, but he proved yesterday he is on another level now. good enough to be the best, but fell short

The only thing margo had to offer was a shitty wbo strap he defended against questionable opposition.....

Floyd and oscar would have kicked his ass anyway

Im just sick and tired of the ****ing cycle on this board. A guy gets 1 good win, hes ****ing over hyped as the next atg, the he loses to a fighter of simalar level(which due to massive hype is seen as a guy hes supposed to steam roll) everyone says hes exposed, never was that good ect....

it always ****ing happens... Happend to margo when he beat cotto(supposed to steamroll mosley then got "exposed"), happend to pavlik (supposed to beat hopkins then got "exposed")

im tired of the over hype and underhype. :-(

    The original post is valid.

Martinez record is one of the most padded I've seen.

Hes fought 2 top fighters.Definately lost to one(Margarito) and questionably lost to the other(Williams).

Outside of those 2,who exactly has be fought to make anyone think hes an elite fighter.
    Go look at his record.
    Its a joke!

Martinez is a very good head to head fighter with a padded record fighting a weight class above his best.

Anything more than that strikes me essentially as P dub fans tryng to save face to justify the fact that the media might've jumped the fun in ranking him so high on P4P lists, but I don't see why they'd need to. Paul's a very good fighter and it's not as if people need a high P4P ranking to justify having fans. Two good fighters put on a great fight, and I'm not going to twist it any more than that to make an arbitrary ranking more convenient.

Actually yey it is cause Santos looked shot, that wasn not the Santos that ive seen fight numerous times in his prime.
Martinez dominated and kod former top Contender Bunema,Kayoed Solid Fringe conternder Saul ROman,Beat up a still prime Cintron,Kod former Uk king Richard williams and in my opinion beat Williams last night. I guarantee you that Foremans people wouldnt dare put him in with Martinez.

Please stop underrating Sergio Martinez...he is a legitimate badass until someone takes his title at 154...and after the asskicking he gave PW at 160, I doubt anyone will be waiting in line to fight him.

he beat up cintron who just beat angulo...then he fought an even fight with PW...he would be the favorite against any 154 lb guy

My point is Williams will beat Pavlik & Martinez back to back.

have no idea why most are counting Pavlik out of this one...has everyone forgotten what a tough fighter Kelly is?

He has fought very tough opposition and only has one loss. If PW thought he had his chin tested against Sergio, He had better buckle up when he fights Pavlik.
