Ricky Hatton has been warned by Floyd Mayweather Senior that he will get "whooped by a nobody" if he doesn't stop boozing.
Hatton's new trainer is appalled by the Hitman's binge-drinking between fights and has told him it will catch up with him.
Mayweather says he must ditch his laddish lifestyle if he wants to remain at the top and said: "I don't like boxers drinking and Ricky would be much better off without it. He could get whooped by a nobody because he is doing the wrong thing with his body.
"I've spoken to him about it and I hope that he gets the message. I want him to leave it alone. It's going to catch up with you somewhere down the line.

"Maybe he doesn't care about his reputation because if he did, he wouldn't do this."
Mayweather is training Hatton for his November 22 showdown with Paul Malignaggi at Las Vegas' MGM Grand and the American trainer claims his boozing buddies are a bad influence on the light welterweight king.
"He's got too much going on in Manchester," said Mayweather. "Everybody knows him there and he is the king there. If these guys really were his friends, they'd say to him: 'We can drink, but you can't'. That's what a friend would do.
"But these guys are gonna get what they can. They get you buying drinks and they're not friends, they're hangers-on."

Floyd Sr certainly hasn't held back with his media comments since he started training Hatton. He was ruthless about Billy Graham...

Smart move by Floyd making these comments in my view. This will be make or break time now for Ricky. Floyd is exactly correct in respect of the drinking issue. If Ricky doesn't leave it alone I reckon Floyd snr will walk away. Its up to Ricky now.

Clearly, if he's improving under Floyd snr, then Ricky should knock it on the head. Billy Graham never made comments like in resoect of Ricky's drinking, so now we will see the level of Ricky's desire!

No one can deny if he does stop the heavy drinking then he will feel better in himself & probably won't have to lose a lot of weight come the beginning of training camp!

the whole thing is fooked up in camp hatton far as i can see...

hatton should be letting nobody in his camp speak publicly about billy graham in a disrespectful way....have a bit of class ricky...thats not cool...billy was the man for a long time for you..

maywaether sr may be a truely great trainer...but i think him taking over so close to a very very big fight for ricky will fook rickys head up...there is not enough time for ricky to take all the new training methods and style of fighting in before paulie...i think....i have a feeling if rickys in the trenches with paulie, hey may get confused trying to stick to a game plan...rather than doing what comes natural....the number of weeks that mayweather has to work with ricky wont make anything come naturally to ricky in the fight...

we have seen ricky training with mayweather...and he looked very confused in training trying to follow instructions...

should be 4 months training together as a minimum, and proper no distraction training...no 'ricky speaks' shows and tv adverts...and no public workouts...

but, hey...who am i to critisise one of the best boxers of the last few years...

    Maybe.

Could end up trying to change too much in too short a space of time.

I think this is just what Hatton needs. Graham became abit of a yes man in my eyes towards the end, making up excuses for Hatton when in reality he needed to be told a few home truths.

Im certain that after this fight Mayweather and Hatton will part ways. Mayweather is not the sort to keep quiet and Hatton won't like it, and I get the feeling as well that they don't exactly mesh well as a pair and there's some tension.

It wouldn't surprise me if Paulie beats Hatton and Hatton makes up a ton of excuses about how him and Floyd 'didn't quite click' etc etc.

    He is right.

Hatton could have been so much better if he hadn't fallen into to the trap of "i am on of the lads etc.". NO! You are either a professional athlete or you are not. The two do not go together if you want to achieve maximum potential.

Hopefully Mayweather as his trainer will be the best thing to happen to Hatton not just because of the boxing skills but because of the discipline it will teach him if you want to ge to the very top.

I agree with Sr. 100%. It will catch up to Ricky eventually, damage his performances, shorten his career. Pretty obvious stuff really.

FM is 100% right in this case. Ricky has to ask himself does he want to be in a position where he could be beaten by a nobody. It's a big fight for him next and Hatton has admitted as much that he's only a short time left in his acreer, maybe 3-4 more fights. He should make the most of that time, hopefully under Mayweather who could breather new life into him. Malignaggi, Witter, Bradley, Kotelnik, Torres, Holt. Lot of decent fights that Hatton can make to finish off his career.
