It’s not a comparison, it’s an observation. It’s happened before so it’s a reasonable observation. Nobody is saying AJ has got the ability of Lewis.
I do agree with that to an extent, but thought he did recover in terms of starting to control the fight again but made the same mistake in trying to take Ruiz out as soon as he landed a big shot. Also completely neglected the uppercut. That was the shot that opened Ruiz up to allow him to put him down. Key weapon against a shorter fighter.
I think he lost every round from round 3 personally. Ruiz was on the front foot, controlling the ring, working the jab and waiting for counter opportunities. It’s mad isn’t it...if he’d not gone in for the finish in round 3, we’d be talking about the Joshua win today. One counter shot from a stricken opponent turns the fight on its head. Isn’t this just the best sport in the world
Rewatching earlier I thought 4 was even, nothing happened. 5 I thought AJ won and 6 he was winning until he got reckless by trying to take Ruiz’s head off again and got caught himself. It was a completely avoidable defeat had he just boxed smart and showed his opponent some respect. Ruiz deserved the win against Parker so why not show him the same respect? Amazing to think that was only his 23rd fight though.
I agree there is little comparison to the Lewis fight. There is a big difference between switching off and getting caught with a huge shot that you cannot get up from, that can happen to anyone at heavyweight. AJ just looked like he lacked the ring IQ to deal with Ruiz, and didn't have the tank to deal with his constant pressure/feints/footwork and hand speed. So decided he would just quit because he knew he couldn't win. I think AJ as been overhyped... the two best fighters on his record had a combined age of 80. If I was AJ I would stay well away from Fury, who will just box his head off until he quits again.
Lewis was winning on the cards until the KO and never got out of 2nd gear. Joshua was outboxed, out thought , out fought, dropped multiple times and broke AJs heart. He quit. An absolute khan job. It’s a much worse loss than getting chin checked by a bingo punch.
I am genuinely convinced that this was the first time AJ has fought clean. Ruiz used as a measuring stick to see how he would do without them. First time abroad fighting, strict testing, no Dubai training camps, Miller got busted with the same testing with multiple peds.
Had Joshua edging the 4th and 5th rounds. He just fell apart again in the 6th and 7th. That blob Ruiz jumped him the last round, and overwhelmed him. Ruiz was too strong and fast for poor Anthony. He needs to make a conscious choice on whether he comes in the early 240's. Or bulks up to the mid 250's if he wants to beat someone like Ruiz. He was ragdolled and taken apart at his current weight.
How can Joshua have no stamina last night when he has been training for this for months. He went 12 rounds with Parker. 11? With Klitsckho. 9 with Whyte? He threw far more punches in them fights too. I'm not having that he was gassed to that extent by round 7 last night after throwing half of what he usually does.
Will you just go away. Your theory is the worst I've ever seen on here and that's saying something. AJ has gassed throughout his career if you've been paying attention. Some opponents let him off the hook, others got knocked out by a wounded animal. AJ nearly ended the fight early with an awesome left hook. He almost took Ruiz's head off with a couple of right hands. Hardly a man trying to lose. He also endured a vicious beatdown with a look of horror fixated on his face. There's easier ways for a multi millionaire to make money. It's absurd. Seriously, give it a rest.
both olympic gold medallists , both waiting for big money fight (TYSON) (WILDER) both stopped by an underdog whod already been beat by someone theyd defeated a year or so prior , parker -ruiz , rahman -tua/holy , both abroad , both fights with multiple alphabets on the line , and both stopped around halfway whilst looking gassed . any more similarities needed ? oh i do believe they were both filming movies ,oceans 11 anyone lol
that is where the comparsion stops though , rahman was always a top prospect whod beat berbick 2 years after turning pro , and hit like a mule but had a questionable chin / heart , and ruiz ! lol
