    SAY WHAT!? :rofl

Well, according to ESPN.com, Golden Boy Promotion CEO, Richard Schaefer, wants to make a fight between Bernard Hopkins and Lucian Bute at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal. He thinks it would sell 50,000 tickets.

I know there is a 99% chance this is just a promoter spitting out more bull**** but what if he's serious? Would people care. Would it sale?

    I honestly don't know. :think

It's obvious Bute is a much bigger draw then Chad Dawson and most likely an easier fight for Hopkins. So I guess it could made sense....

It would be good. Bute is a huge draw there, Bernard goes for a title @ 168 (if he is okay with that weight, he did go to 170 and re-hydrated to 181 against Pavlik and had no trouble)

I dunno , I wouldnt call myself a huge Bute fan but I think he does have that extra bit that champions have , Where as Dawson is just a guy who happens to have come along when the rest of the LHW division is in their 40s.

I think Bute is the tougher fight , in fact if Bute doesn't let Hopkins con him , then I would expect Bute to win.

Not sure if it's easier than fighting Dawson though.

Well, of course the fight will sell that is a no brainer. Bute is a hero up there and the fight will sell out in a few hours, but is this really a good move for Hopkins taking on somebody like Bute?

If he beat Bute he would have a title in another division, then could go ahead and try to fight Haye. It's about legacy at this point. Of course he will be well paid. His legacy is already complete, but he wants to try and do a little more. Who's to say he can't?

It's a difficult fight, but he won't really be hurt if he does lose. He'd be 45 yrs old. I don't know if Dawson or Bute would be more difficult. Maybe Bute would be.

Great idea and since GBP and Canadian officials are in cahoots, we wont have to worry as much about a robbery.

Props to Hopkins if he takes on either Bute or Dawson. Haye would be cool too - I guess.

he needs to be showing calzaghe just how big of a payday is waiting on his doorstep at the millenium stadium in cardiff and get the hopkins rematch going.
20 million gauranteed in calzaghes back pocket should secure it.

The fight would probably sell well at the gate but I doubt it would sell PPV wise in the USA. So it would have to be on HBO: World Championship Boxing instead.

There is still quite a bit of money to be made front that. HBO was willing to pay 3.5 millions for Pavlik-Williams. I don't see why they wouldn't pay a similar fee for Bute-Hopkins.

Split it 2.5 million for Hopkins and 1 million for Bute. Then split the live gate (another 2-3 millions).

Would ~3.5 millions be enough for Hopkins to take the fight?

He wouldn't have much to lose by taking it. :huh

He fought Pavlik for 3 million. No, definitely not close to a PPV fight, so yeah around 3 million would do it for this one. HBO will put up good money for it because they want to push Bute for more exposure here. Of course, that did not work out well when they tried to with Pavlik!

I just checked the specifications of the Olympic Stadium for fun.

The capacity is 66,000 for football. That means probably close to 70,000 for a boxing fight.

Not that it would sell anywhere close to that number.

I think the tickets would have to be affordable to get to the 50,000 mark.

Like 30$ for the nosebleed or something like that. The Olympic Stadium is huge. People on the third balcony probably wouldn't be able to tell what's going on in the ring.

On the "who will Hopkins fight now" thread testerday this is the fight that I thought would happen.

It's a bigger commercial event than B-Hop Vs Dawson and will probably be a more exciting fight as well. I would absolutely love this to come off!!!
