That would be a really good fight, one i could def see hops losing at this point....... i really, really, really dont like bute, but hes not bad, and i think his style could give hopkins at this stage some problems.

That being said.... hopkins has a way better chance at beating bute then he does beating a dawson whos bringing his A game, to me dawson is bigger AND better then bute, which would add up to a loss for old man hopkins.

If i was hopkins i would take the bute fight, IF i win that one.... then move on to dawson.

id be impressed as well, taking on yet another undefeated top tier fighter..... when someone like green is there to fight after just beating rjj.

i hope they make the fight....

Bute is getting more attention because of the way he has looked in his last two fights...both resulting in 2 fabulous KOs against two respected "tough guys".

If Dawson had KO'd both Tarver and Johnson in the same fashion, he would be on a wheaties box right now. I know...they're much better opposition than Bute's last two opponents.

Dawson could easily gain more recognition by simply cleaning out his division. he could fight Cloud or the winner of the Pascal and Diaconu fight. Didn't Dawson elect to relinquish his title instead of fighting Tavoris Cloud? Correct me if I'm wrong.

I disagree though of Dawson being an unknown. He gets the appropriate resepct he deserves from boxing scribes and would be considered a much larger feather in B-hops cap.

Translation: if you don't have the same opinion that I do, you know nothing.
Even if you expose fair facts, I will say you're stupid. :nut

At the risk of sounding crass, that's the benefit of having fans that will pay to see you fight. Part of that's on Dawson, and part of that seems to be bad luck that fight fans don't want to pay money to watch him fight.

The part that's on Dawson and Shaw is this: Do you know how many years Hopkins toiled in obscurity defending his strap against no-hopers to earn big fights? He coveted that title because he knew that was his only ticket to landing big fights....and eventually, he was right. Dawson never went through that phase and keeps voluntarily dropping his only bargaining chip because he's so concerned with grabbing quick big money fights now with seemingly no clearly defined long-term plan. So, he does what's best in the short term and shoots himself in the foot as it relates to the long term goals. I don't feel bad for him at all in this regard because there's fighters who wait years for title shots and so far Shaw and Chad have already had 2 shots and it's clear they don't value them...but yet enjoy whining about how nobody wants to fight him. The way to avoid that is to MAKE people have to go through you by not vacating the ****ing belts every time you get one.

It wouldn't be the end of the world if he started fighting lower-name opposition more frequently to get himself more exposure even though he'll get plenty more since HBO is making him their next Chosen One. Still, I'd like to see him beat guys like Pascal, the Campillo-Shumenov winner, and other top 15 175 pounders. Establish himself as the best by fighting more than twice a year even if they're not superfights, hold on to the belts, and he'll find that all the sudden it ain't so easy for the biggest names to not fight him.

Bute is not someone impossible to beat. True.
But not by a 44-45 years old Hopkins beaten twice by a overrated and consequently looser like Taylor.
Pavlik does not compare even close to Bute.Look to the Bute-Pavlik thread. Over 90% percent of posters think Bute "is too much for Pavlik".

A lot of posters say Hopkins looked bad, and then turn right around and ask "Who's Ornales? I know nothing about him. Never heard of the guy.":patsch

I'd love it!... mostly because I could get a ticket for this one... and I thinks it's a close fight (maybe a boring fight) but competative.

It will make Hopkins look bad for blatantly ducking Dawson though.
