I don't think most on here hate him but everyone can see that his team is going to try and sell him as the CW champ if he beats Makabu and that is just not the case. Briedis is the real champ of the division. Boxing fans want to see the best fight the best not guys collecting alphabet titles. I think most were expecting fights with Beterbiev or Bivol at 175 and are disappointed.

    Let them hate.
    Who really gives a ?

Let them champion a guy who fights cans once a year. Live & let live.

    not everybody can appreciate greatness.
There are those who have to hate along the way.

    i used to hate Mayweather.
Then after he beat Márquez & Mosley,
in particular it was the way he beat them …

I finally understood he was Great & a Master Boxer.

there will always be A-Sides who enjoy the advantage of being such a Draw in the sport.

however, typically that road is hard earned.

I’d say Canelo has worked hard & earned that status.

who is a harder working & more active prize fighter?

    Please Nelo haters enlighten us.

He makes it so they aren't the best by catchweights, rehydration clauses and short camps and you still give him credit like he faced a prime GGG or a prime Kovalev. He didn't.

You say he goes after the best guys in his weight class but he doesn't, his weight class is super middleweight yet he waited until Benavidez didn't have a belt and immediately is leaving that weight class and skipping light heavyweight to cherry pick someone he sees an obvious weakness in. What's the point of collecting belts and having zero defenses? Should this be applauded?

If he achieved what he achieved without the nonsense like clenbuterol, catchweights, short camps, rehydration clauses, bribed or incompetent judges (you already said he lost to GGG) that would be one thing but he hasn't and you seem to disregard all that. Why?

You talk of his opponent having physical advantages. So what. AJ had physical advantages over Usyk and Usyk still won, fairly without the Canelo nonsense I might add. Physical is one and only one aspect and is negated by Canelos unethical shenanigans.

Everything that plagues the sport? Canelo has put the sport on his back and taken it to new heights. It's only miserable cowards who have nothing better to do than to reign on someone's parade. My advice to you : cheer up and stop being such a sour puss.

He waited to Benavidez didn't have a belt? It's amazing that you're mad at Canelo for the mistakes that Benavidez made that caused him to lose his belt, like that was Canelo's fault. How bout holding Benavidez accountable for why he doesn't have a belt. That was his fault. You know what's ironic about the people upset that Canelo isn't fighting Benavidez next? There are just as many people who watched him over the weekend and were unimpressed and concluded that he's not ready for Canelo. Hell even Bradley who was trashing Makabu said that after watching Benavidez he expressed his doubts about Benavidez's ability to beat Canelo. At this point, we don't know what the future holds. We don't know if Canelo will return to 168 after this attempt at Cruiserweight glory.

Look I wanted nothing more than for Canelo to stay at 168 and defend his Undisputed. I made it very clear how important that is and I am hopeful that he will do exactly that after fighting Makabu. But the point of Canelo challenging Makabu is to take on a bigger challenge than any of these other guys that people want him to fight would give him. Benavidez, Beterbiev, Bivol these are guys that we all want to see him fight, but when you look at who those guys have fought, I'm sorry but just comparing their careers, none of those guys are more accomplished than Makabu, and none of them have really beaten anyone great yet. Makabu has beaten 3 Cruiserweights currently ranked in the Top 10 and is on a 9 fight winning streak.

If it was so easy for these guys to move up to CW and take the title off of a guy like Makabu, then why hasn't anyone done it yet? Don't you get it, no one else besides Canelo dares to be great. All these guys do is fight bums their whole career and wait around for a chance to win the Canelo sweepstakes. I haven't seen any of the guys doing anything worthy of being deserving of a Canelo fight. The best thing about fight Makabu is it's going to make the 3Bs start to think about fighting each other or doing something that catches peoples attention in an effort to impress Canelo and entice them into fighting him. Some people think he should fight Charlo, some people like that hater David Faitelson think he should should fight GGG again. Everyone has their own opinion of who they think Canelo shoud fight, and when they don't get what they want, they throw a hissy fit about it like a baby who didn't get their bottle from mommy. What I like about Canelo is he's always full of surprises and every once in a while decides to fight someone completely out of left field like this that takes everyone by surprise. But if you look throughout his career, he's managed to fight top quality opponents while at the same time marching to the beat of his own drum and surprising people by taking calculated risks and interesting stylistic matchups along the way.

Will you feel the same if there's a catchweight or rehydration clause though? If he is fighting at the full limit no clauses...I'll be suprised but I'd give him credit for the win.

But..if there's a catchweight, rehydration clause... anything like that..it's just another asterisk against an opponent's name.

Canelo is very talented and is capable of making a amazing resume..but... Why is he not going for breidis..if he's going to have a trip to cruiser....go for the man...dare to be great....he just wants a paper belt.

And I'll be really interested to see how much weight he goes up for this fight.....if he puts 20 pounds of muscle on its gonna ring serious alarm bells

You hit on something important there. Canelo deserves props for taking on this challenge, not hate. It's unknown what weight Canelo walks around at, and regardless of what he walks around at, just the fact that he's fighting someone much bigger so that's a big challenge in it of itself. And not only is Makabu bigger and skilled, but this guy is a bonafide Champion who has beaten quality fighters. Have you really studied his performances in his recent fights? He's very agile for a Cruiserweight, he uses a lot more head movement than the other CW Champions I can tell you that much. He has good ring generalship.

You know a lot of people judge him based on his stoppage loss to Bellew, but he's definitely improved since that fight and even vs Bellew that was a war for as long as it lasted. Did you see Makabu knock down Bellew in the 1st round? We should definitely be showing Makabu some respect. If you take the time to some watch some of his fights, you'll see how good he is and your opinion will change of how difficult he will be for Canelo. I think it's a great stylistic matchup, particularly due to him being an awkward southpaw who can punch and with how much upper body movement he uses.

I'll give Alvarez credit: he's very good at picking his opponents at the most opportune moments, and convincing casuals that he somehow deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Mayweather and Pacquiao.

The "hate" is deserved, to balance out the circlejerk around him.

I never said that it was Canelos fault nor did I imply it.. You are making strawman arguments.

Nothing you said changes the fact that Canelo didn't want anything to do with Benavidez when he was healthy and had a belt. The same way he vacated to avoid a healthy GGG.

Now that Benavidez has had covid and lost a step I was surprised Canelo didn't leap on the fight. I felt the same about Beterbiev as he too had covid and didn't look well in his last outing.

Let me ask you these two questions...

    1. Should champions defends their titles?

    2. Does his Cruiserweight win mean anything if there are catchweights, rehydration clauses or any other usual Canelo nonsense?
