Emile Griffith's 1966 welter to middleweight king victory over Dick Tiger tops anything Clenelo has done.

People will only appreciate Canelo's greatness either after he retires or he dies.

I think there's some truth to that. I certainly think Floyd is better now he has retired and the silly fanboys have moved onto something else. A lot of resentment is with the fans not the fighter and it's the same with Canelo.

I hated Floyd for a while, it really took years and his retirement to realize what I was witnessing.

I think it's the opposite. I think Floyd's cherry picking has come into greater focus post retirement. Floyd's career is not going to age well.

It's the only way to judge things not just in boxing but like political leaders or your favorite band. It has to stop and time pass as we all suffer from recency bias which is why you get the obsessed following the latest fad. I think Canelo is doing a solid job and will be remembered by the majority. It's just we're on a boxing forum and we know the finer details so we are more critical than the general public. It always has been like this and it will always continue because it's human nature.

As my comment just above. Is that beacuse we know the details because I'm pretty sure the public aren't aware of any of it. We are the minority at the end of the day. Some of us know the history the evolution and the context hardly anyone else does.
I agree about Floyd but hasn't that now been accepted behaviour for the "A-side" I don't like it. I didn't when SRL took time off for people to take losses or slow down. The point is we have got here through an evolutionary procces. Floyd was the most strategic however Canelo is at the same level now and will fool the majority.

He is excellent, but it is not that simple. That is some questionable dodginess in his career.

Floyd has had the exact same situations from fixed fights to popping positive, in the end everyone moves on from it.

If Canelo beats Makabu I will finally admit that he is as good as prime Bellew.

It is a travesty how badly Makabu is being underrated just so people can denigrate Tony's skills.

Canelo had already won a title in a higher weight class and nobody considers Plant or Smith as P4P talent. Canelo should have spent the last 2 years at 175.

How do you all fit Canelo's roid shriveled dick in your mouths?

Not hard to be active when you're considered the face/lottery ticket of the sport.

Isn't is amazing how many people do not realize this luxury Canelo has over EVERYONE in boxing?? He NEVER had to work or prove himself for a title shot. Silver Spoon and Fast Pass to greatness right off the back.

That said...he's doing the work. Props for that. But NO ONE should be surprised, no one else in boxing gets his preferential treatment. He's literally 3-4 rounds up from Rnd 1.

Most definitely. Failure changes a fighter. We'll never know how Canelo would respond psychologically to officially losing to GGG and other opponents. People underestimate getting the benefit of the doubt ALL the time. This allows a boxer to grow without shattering his confidence. Very unfair. Fundora and Munguia have benefitted from this too.

Yes, Mayweather too. But unlike the patterns that have emerged from these 2 fighters, not all champions have had dodginess go their way.
