I had to stop sparring today for the first time due to a body shot. It was an absolute nothing shot from a feather fisted opponent but it feels like I've been hit with a hammer. There was no power in it but it felt like he connected with a knuckle or he has a horse shoe in his glove! How do I know (apart from going to the hospital which takes hours) whether its broken or not? I tried to continue sparring but throwing a left hook put me in absolute agony. Its right on underneath of my bottom left rib cage. Coughing hurts and I can't engage my stomach muscles to sit up. Could my my muscles just be in spasm?
I got dropped with a bodyshot by one of our newer less experienced members not long ago . A somewhat embarassing and humbling experience. I bet it was even more humbling for you to try and continue and not be able to. That just demonstrates how the most crippling shots have little to do with the level of exertion/power, and much more to do with the right timing, form and placement. In any case, sorry for your luck. You won't get any qualified responses from an internet message board. Go see a doctor if the pain bothers you. It sounds like a bruised rib, which usually heals on its own, provided you rest for a few weeks (no boxing, no upper body exercies - period). But then again, it could be more serious. Either way, you're pretty much out of commission for a couple of weeks at least. It's a shitty realization, but you cannot risk making it worse. Oh yeah, and whatever you do......don't......SNEEZE!!!!
Got dropped by bodyshots ****load of times.. would hurt for 20-30 mins then just a small bruise for some days then its gone
Speechless ended the thread as best as anyone could have. Take a break and let it heal. Part of training as lazy as it may sound.
It's strange because people talk about being hit in the liver which is underneath the ribs on the right hand side, but if you get it in the opposite side it seems just as sapping and debilitating. The solar plexus is similar. But I do maintain that a punch to the kidney is the worst of the lot for sheer paralysis, and being hit in the lower hip unexpectedly can be pretty numbing as well.
i got hit on the lower part of my ribs and was hurting for weeks. i didn't go to the doctor but it hurt to breathe and cough and situp basically anything so i feel ur pain and it will eventually go away.
