I started my career unbdefeated as an amatuer and won my first 23 bouts koing or dropping every opponent I faced.Great combo boxer and puncher til disaster struck. Became very well known, other than a boxer.Who am I ?
Edward,kudos to U. Yes Ruby Goldstein was deemed the "next Benny Leonard " by all who saw him start as a pro. My dad raved about him to me when I was a young boy.Goldstein was a dynamic puncher who won his first 23 bouts until he met a young Ace Hudkins later called the Nebraska Wildcat.In the very first round Goldstein's potent right-hand landed on Hudkins chin sending Ace on his back, but theTOUGH Hudkins somehow got off the canvass and outfought and kod Goldstein who was never the sama after that terrible surprising loss. He went downhill, lost his confidence and later on became a famous referee. Many years later I met Goldstein in New Hampshire and had an interesing conversation about his career and boxing. Cheers.
Burt It was a shot in the dark. As they say, it is sometimes better to be lucky than good. On Ace Hudkins--I believe he and his brothers later ran a horse farm which provided horses for B westerns. Seems I read that somewhere.
Yes after the tough Ace hudkins retired he became a stunt man in Hollywood,and then owned a horse farm renting horses to Hollywood for movies. One of his horses he owned was Hi Ho Silver from the Lone Ranger fame. But Hudkins never "horsed" around in the ring.One tough ******* !
