Definitely my weakest punch, im talking about the bolo overhand right, like Chuck Liddel throws I used to play cricket as a kid so i have been trying to incorporate the bowling action a bit into my overhand right I think i have the punch trajectory down now, just wondering whether your arm should be straight or bent when throwing this punch ?
Mayweather uses a lot of overhand rights. Like most of his shots he doesnt throw it with much power though, he keeps it very short unlike the vid.
You'll probably require a much tighter punch than Liddell's if you're fighting honed boxers, especially in the lighter divisions, for the sole reason that boxing is a punch specific sport. A decent counter puncher would have no problem reading a punch like that. For me, the overhand right is best thrown by shorter fighters at close range using a bent arm.
I think it depends on the situation. If you can time someone's jab going back you can throw it straight over the top, but sometimes after you find yourself at the waistline from dipping or jabbing to the body, your arm will only go over your opponent's guarding arm if it's curved. If thrown at an angle in that situation it's also harder to see coming as it loops in from the outside.
Lol. I dunno. The OP wants to throw an overhand right like Chuck, so I gave him a vid of Chuck teaching the overhand right.
Whenever I throw that punch, I feel like it doesn't connect or they just see it coming. I feel like the straight right is better.
The truth is that the Overhand right is: 1. The Less Powerful Punch (cuz it has NO bodyweight behind it, its just an arm punch, i even think a Proper Power Jab will have more power than this punch, let alone the Cross or Hook or Uppercut) 2. The MOST risky punch to throw (if you are fighting somebody who spent at least 3 days in the gym working on counter-punching, you will get caught and probably dropped by a left hook) so... straight shots, hooks n uppercuts, NO overhands
Arm should be bent or looping. Put all the weight on the left foot and drive the punch with the right foot. That was the punch Pirog knocked Jacobs out with I think.
Are you on drugs, the overhands is the biggest punch in the book if you know how to throw it. just think how often do you see fighters get knocked out with a overhand? and how often do you see fighters get knocked out with a jab nuff said
