Straight body punches, are they underappreciated?

Inside slip, punching as you slip.

  2. Spot on. Watch amateur fights and see how many points are awarded for body shots. Very few.

I remember when you watched my sparring vid about a year back and told me to try this, which i did. Through practiaing this i became a master at slipping inside the jab and landing the right over the top, its the one thing im really successful with even against lads that are levels above me in sparring.

Regular sparring partners tend to get on to it to be honest, plus that was half said in jest, i dont eat an uppercut every single time i throw it.

Usually not where it should be, i like to throw a left to the body now when i throw that punch so ive usually already half sent my left on its way as i throw the shot.

A couple things about that...First, when you make that move inside, put your left glove on their right glove, pin it there. Second, are you staying in one place too long after you land your punch?
Think about this. You slip his left and land your right, it is a timing punch, correct? Now, he can't hit you with the right uppercut while his left is still out there. Are you waiting around too long after, crouched over? You need to move, hit that right hand, and weave back outside, hooking your left to his body as you go. When you get back outside you are out of range and you can 'follow your weight' into a spot to come back over his left shoulder with a right hand.

  11. Practice it over and over until it is.
