I thought that Hrgovic became mandatory when he "beat" Zhang? In which case the champion has a certain amount of time to arrange a defence against him or it goes to purse bids, and if the champion doesn't agree the mandatory gets promoted or gets to fight someone else for the title. This is not like, say, Dillion Whyte where he has waited forever for a title shot. He's beat one person and it made him next in line, which he is. But unifications take precedence over mandatories and EVERYONE recognised that. If anything Hrgovic has been fast-tracked

Once again, marketing doesnt have anything to do with his ranking.

The IBF cant say "You were our #1 ranked fighter, but that win didnt really excite us, so now you're not getting the fight"

Fury never even proved he is elite. He has fought old men and bums. Ortiz was never in the same area code as elite. Helenius? lmfao, the guy had to rematch Yury Bykhautsou who is currently 10-27 to get a clean decision win.

Aside from 40 year old Wlad and Wilder has Fury ever faced elite level competition ?

Ortiz was a solid top 10 but not an elite.
Helenius was a good top 15-20.

OAP Ortiz, Helenius and Fraudley Harrison, in that order are Wilders best wins. The guy was nothing more than a manufactured PBC bum. Eggy Hearn better make the fight so Joshua can batter and retire that fraud. :headbash

Why have you included Fury in your question? Does not make any sense.

Yes and ranking has little to do with how world title fights are made these days. I don't like it but that's the truth.

yep i watched the fight and those who watched it with me (including 2 ex pro's) plus the commentators seemed to be in agreement. but hey maybe you're right and everyone else is wrong and it was clearly a superb performance from Hrgovic and the world is eagerly anticipating his next fight.

Why are Ortiz and "Elite" in the same sentence?

Ortiz is almost as overhyped as Wilder - his resume hinges entirely on having beaten Bryant Jennings... and to be clear, for starters Jennings claim to greatness was losing a wide UD to Wlad and for seconds Jennings looked about as interested in fighting Ortiz as Wlad looked against Fury (ie: barely at all).

On balance, Ortiz is pretty much gatekeeper level - he's had his moments where he looked decent but not often enough to be regarded as anything more (a lot like Andy Ruiz has had nights like his fights with Joshua and Parker where he looked like a proper contender, but is often pretty mediocre).

Then we get to Fury, whose claim to greatness was beating Wlad on a night where he looked totally uninterested in fighting, and Fury still had to stink the place out to win - and then avoided a rematch.

And this overhyped champion, whilst he looks like he could be the real deal (and there's a world of difference between looking it and proving it) clowned Wilder in the first fight despite being horribly out of condition and ring rusty - Wilder got lucky it was called a draw, against a guy who was probably 60%.

Wilder is simply the most overrated fighter of this generation, he's basically a fraud.

His chins overrated in that he got battered and stopped by famously featherfisted Fury and had to be bailed out by the referee against an aging Ortiz.

His power is overrated in that he's not really knocked out anyone with an iron chin... he's got power, but I don't see any evidence it's anywhere near GOAT power.

About the only thing that's not overrated is his heart, but that's only inside the ring - outside the ring he's as cowardly as prizefighters get... let's not forget this a guy who ducked Wlad, ducked Joshua, ducked Povetkin and even ducked Dillian ****ing Whyte.

Straight up fraud, if it weren't for the WeBeCorrupt protecting him from plausible mandatories and build a long but fraudulent title reign, nobody would rate him at all.

Fury fought the "best" men of his era and made light work of them. Wlad, Wilder & Usyk. Two undefeated and one regarded as the hardest puncher of all times. All long reigning champions.

    These men are no joke.

I'll point out a joke to you - A manufactured bodybuilder named Femi
