Perfect example and it's no surprise he's the guy everyone talks about when a high profile fighter needs a new trainer.
Best of both is the way ahead.Too much of one or the other will eventually become stale in the not too distant future and it's the guys with the best combination who will flourish in years to come.

    i think they're beneficial.

there are so many thing's a coach doesn't know of regarding the human body.

for a long time i remember freddie roach and manny steward were against s&c coaches.

i think a really good thing about S&C coaches is that they can give a helluva lot of variety to a fighters workouts and still know full well that they're covering all the bases. once the body gets used to a workout it becomes less effective.

exactly what my coach said, you can have all the stamina in the world but it's no use if you dont know how to use it efficiently

There is also a new area of scientific research called "neuroplasticity." It's the study of how the brain can make short-term, and then long-term, changes in how it responds to external stimuli. It's REALLY fascinating stuff, and the I'm guessing that its application to sports science will literally be game changing.

for instance, it could help outline an efficient way to learn how to better use a check hook, or to avoid a punch, or ... All sorts of reflexive issues.

I'll gladly make an avatar bet right now that neither Freddy nor Manny know **** about neuroplasticiy.
    - and I just LOVE me them Penchanga babes! (I'd like to P4P them right now. :yep )

Is this indirectly suggesting performance enhancers? 4 pages and no one has mentioned PEDs. Wake up people, "Strength and Conditioning" also equates to effective and undetectable PED cycling. :bbb

this is what i think, to be honest from my opinion you just need to understand the basic idea of conditioning and strength. I feel good with strength because im able to bully guys in the ring when i have to because i have the strength to due to the explosion type workouts i do with weights/bodyweight. Although i lack conditioning knowledge conditioning. I think its best to trust yourself when you have a good idea because to me it sort of sounds like a waste of money to get these guys unless they got quite a resume and you never really bother to do the research.

I'd be nice though if you could get a 2 in one package, like pedro diaz :thumbsup

it might help some people but I think there is a lot of innate make up by the time you are an adult that they won't change in a high pressure situation. Some guys are always going to be more likely to fold under heat than others. I can't imagine it would be universally beneficial.

Way too many factors in a fight to resolve clinically in a nice slow paced room. There has to be some innovative stuff there to simulate the stress of a boxing ring - tough sparring is probably the best psychological tool for a fighter getting back to their "confident" zone.

No. It's the old school way or not at all.

Dempsey didn't need one and I never heard him pull out of a fight with an oblique injury.

Tyson had a psychologist back in the day because he got so dependent on his hook that he lost confidence in his right hand.
