Whoah!!! 10 reps x 10 sets for each exercise? That's a large training volume. I wonder if there are any boxers who follow this protocol. Wouldn't it be more preferable to do boxing specific training (e.g. heavy bag drills, etc.) for training endurance and then use weight lifting solely for improving strength? Would a 10x10 program be beneficial to a boxer or be counter-productive?...kinda like the way people use plyometrics as endurance exercises.
the last part about deadlifting only is my personal experience and if you want to ignore it lots of people will agree with you. aside from that, the fact is a persons CNS plays a huge part in weight lifting and is affected by it in a huge way, how do you think the smaller olympic lifters can haul such massive weights? why do you think some people naturally posess freakish strength or speed with the same bones and muscles that everyone else has? it is how the nerves recruit the muscle fibers and how many they recruit and it is a scientifically proven fact that weight lifting changes how this happens in a person.
I think the paranoia's getting to you. any ways keep up the posts, if you use the same tactic enough even idiots will see what your doing and start to ignore you. :hi:
i have no idea who that is, i am guessing you are trying to insinuate that i am wrong again. if you do not think your central nervous system plays a huge role in how you perform at any given athletic activity, you are stupid. if you do not think your central nervous system adapts itself to any given athletic activity you do repeatedly, you are also stupid.
Mr small and Virus at the moment iv got my training together again, i will be going back to boxing soon however (long story) im moving to australia so will not be competing here. My goals are at the moment are to get strong in all areas. I know this sounds a bit weak, but with no specific sport/goal/ target to aim for i just want to be good all round. My conditioning is very good i do 3 days of that and 2 days on strength training which i have never done properly before. I am happy with the way it is going im in my 3rd week now. The strength training is based on ross trainings book and its mostly in that 3-5 rep range. One day i do max strength and one day i do explosive strength. I have found gains all round really since iv got my training more organized again and i definitely feel stronger and fitter than ever before. HOWEVER (sorry for the long windedness) What would in your opinion be the next stage for strength training, i dont want to plateau and would like to hear of any other methods ect you recommend thanks for any info :good
if you are a beginner, anything will work for the first few months or longer, so don't worry about things too in detail. get the work in, learn your technique on the exercises, and keep working hard. WHEN you start being bored, or not improving, or anything like that, then come and ask that question. Don't even worry about plateauing, it might take you years. The important thing is to gradually add resistance, but don't rush anything. this sounds a bit vague but you will know what I mean when you are having a bad day and need to tone it down, or you are doing what you planned to do easily, and should go a little heavier. don't compromise technique though.
Sticking to a plan and progression are two of the most important things. Like MrSmall said, when you get bored or hit a wall is when you want to ask some questions.
