so im about 165lb, want to cut to 155-160lb because i think that is my ideal fighting weight. but also want too get stronger. wont 5x5 weight training just put mass on me and get me to a weight class where im smaller than most of em. i did weight training before i restarted boxing and went to 185lb, and was quite and heavy and sluggish this is also due to the fact i wasnt running like i do now.

you won't add mass without some serious, lengthy work. as you get stronger, you will get bigger, this is inevitable. you might lose some fat weight and put some muscle weight on and keep at around the same weight overall. if you put 30lbs on and do no cardio, conditioning or boxing, why would this benefit you as a boxer? and why were you surprised you were heavy? you shouldn't get much slower, if at all, but if you didn't keep the boxing up, then sure!

also 20-30lbs of added weight needs some serious eating - stop eating as much! you can get stronger without adding THAT much weight. if you feel the need to "cut" then you probably don't have much muscle on you and predominantly have an "out of shape" physique, so there is breathing space for adding some muscle.
Lift heavy and condition hard, weight will sort itself out. If you feel its getting out of hand, STOP EATING AS MUCH! Its not magic - you won't lift some weights for a few months and put on all this weight that will make you box like your grandmother.

Mr small a quick question would 5x5 squats,5x5 deadlifts and 5x5 bench press all done on same day once a week be sufficient for strength gains? And also would each week doing 2 sets with the previous weeks weight and then adding 2.5kg for the last 3 sets be a good way of improving?

i wasnt boxing at all for about 3years, and weight trained for 6months and been off it for 1-2months. so likely to have lost muscle mass and lost fat since i started boxing for only a month. but as you pointed out my appetite is ****ing riduclous :p atm my physique isnt that bad, my core is quite thick due those squats and deadlifts and legs ofc.
