Hey guys, anyone have any tips for making the wrists stronger or better protected to handle more powerful punches?

Push-ups with your fists, and some weight-lifting exercises. Also to make your wrist get used to impact try using the same 2 punches combination in the heavy bag, first soft and loose (to get the proper distance and position of the entire body) increasing the power without losing speed nor technique.

Try really searching deep on Google/the net for quality info, not a Boxing forum.

That's not me coming across like a jerk, rez, it's just that I've ruined my wrist and I wouldn't want it to happen to a fellow poster! ;-)

Try searching on (not that I know any) really busy forums where Physio's might be members of.

I used to train at a proper boxing gym, but it shut down and I never hit the bags for years. Started going to a commercial gym just for fitness and started finishing on the bags for 10 mins, done that for ages and ended up throwing a left hook one day and it's NEVER been healthy since. I'm actually going to try and find a hand surgeon in the new year as it's gone on for too long now.

Punch the heavy bag without gloves. No pain no gain.

Knuckle push ups will compact the hand and help reinforce your wrist making it stronger.

Reverse wrist curls minim weight of even 7 pounds and up.

Get a dumb bell and hold it for a minute before you cant hold it any more and your hand gives out.

Heavy grippers or captains of crush hand Grippers, will strengthen both hand and wrist.

Sledge Hammer wrist curls...or weighted bar of any length ,gripping the object using just wrist motion up/down..north and south motion.

i have excellent broom trick but hard to explain ,its called walking the broom up and i have weights on the bottom. this made my wrists like steel.

Theres many pulley routines/cables at the gym to use...even rubber bands. Take a bunch of rubber bands and place them on the end of all your fingers/thumb and squeeze outward where the bands are contracting. This should burn the wrist and strengthen the hand. a revers claw motion.

they sell forearm flexors that do work, makes a good burn...cheap and will hit the inside wrist.

Look up John Brookfield on hand and wrist strenghening.
