Nah man, if you say it's possible it's possible, especially after the explanation of the jab rocking the head back first and the second punch hitting the throat.

    But still **** Off !:good

Old photo of my dad from when he was in his late 20s. He died back in sept at 79. That was just a picture taken at a local swim park, not a sports team or anything. He played football (the american kind) in high school, had a scholorship offer to a small college but didnt take it. Did some boxing in the army from what I can gather (when I was a kid I found his boxing shoes and gloves) But honestly I never really discussed with him how much did or if he had offical fights or what....one of my regrets was not talking to him about that.

he actually used it on the regular...never got in trouble for it, except for when he hit a guy after the bell.

Nelson rebounded strong by 1984 against another Hall of Famer in Wilfredo Gomez. The Ghanaian outmuscled and grinded down Gomez for an 11th round KO and WBC super featherweight title. The knockout is memorable due to Gomez falling in slow motion after being punched directly in the throat.

He used the throat punch other times as well, I remember seeing the fight with Hernadez on HBO when he hit him in the throat right after the bell....

With your opponent on the move trying not to get hit it is a possibility with a headshot, particularly ones aimed at the jaw.

yeah it can so could a 16oz glove but really it should be near impossible to land on any half decent fighter who would be trained to keep that chin down

Yes, it is closer than other combat spots, but there are still rules. There are athletic commissions to deal with, and how many participants do you think it would it have if there were no rules? Probably some, but no where near as many as there are today. It definitely wouldn't be growing at the same rate.

But is it actually UFC rules that you can't hit to the throat? because you can in boxing from what i can see...that is kind of interesting.

Yes it is. I think it was Stoo that posted those rules in a thread I started a while back. I'll look for it.

Actually, that isn't what he was pointing out; but I'm sure no strikes to the throat are part of the original rule set.

I wonder....are throat strikes for the most part that much more dangerous than a punch to the temple?

I would think so. What if the wind pipe is ruptured? Can that cause you to choke on your own blood?
