I think they should just scrap the StrikeForce title. No one really gives a **** about that belt. StrikeForce could be used to show case big names that are not in title contention. Say Matt Hughes wants to continue. Let him fight some guys in StrikeForce. If he goes on a good streak, take him back to the UFC. If not, let him keep the fans watching on Showtime.
That was a good Strikeforce event. Despite losing their top talent to the UFC, Coker and company always manage to put on great shows. Strikeforce isn't going anywhere any time soon because ZUFFA wants to keep the women's division going as they will never bring women into the UFC. There are at least two more events with heavyweights in the coming year as the tournament finals need completion and the winner is suppose to fight one more time on Showtime before the heavyweight division is abolished. Cung Le could come back to fight on Strikeforce in the coming year. A battle between him and Lawler would draw a lot of fans. Rowdy Ronda Rousey is on the verge of becoming a superstar if she can beat Meisha Tate. I don't know if you've seen her or not but she has mad judo skills and anyone that's a fan of MMA should be a fan of Ronda Rousey.
Did you even read my post? I've got no problem with Strikeforce functioning as a developmental league, but that's not what was going on. The UFC was in the process of raiding the promotion for talent and dissolving it before Stephen Espinoza became the head of Showtime sports and inked a new deal. Dana White was literally talking about Melendez fighting Edgar one week, then saying that he was staying put the next. They're keeping the top guys who got stuck on the wrong side of the acquisition in Strikeforce to keep up the pretense that the company is equal to the UFC. Guys like Rockhold, King Mo, Mousasi and Melendez should be fighting against top contenders in the UFC not up and comers who aren't ready for the best and guys who are past their prime in Strikeforce. If you want to watch a bunch of ridiculous mismatches like we've seen on the past two cards, more power to you. I'm entitled to my opinion, and I don't like what I'm seeing from the Strikeforce brand as a fan who used to enjoy their shows. IMO they need to move the aforementioned top level fighters to the UFC, get rid of the bull**** titles and focus on the younger talent like they used to in the Challengers series. That would better for the fighters, the fans, the promotion and Showtime.
Strikeforce is just a promotion, it lost its legitimacy. Look at the woodley and saffidean split decisions the other night when both guys won all 3 rounds clearly. Look at the melendez masvidal fight. Easy to bet on.
I enjoyed all 5 fights last time. Its great to see the production improve. So funny watching Coker do a mini Dana and stand next to the fighters at the weigh in.
