I dunno...I'd take him over Rogers...I'd say Arlovski as well...after all the first was pretty close even with the bad referee standup...other than that its hard to say. Wouldn't fancy him to win that's for sure.

Yes, I agree with you. I guess if the UFC is putting him against a low lvl striker he would still have a sub chance against the guy. But TBH, I don't want to see him or CC fight ever again. it was hard to see him lose against Velasquez and CC against Mir....

On another point, I'm I the only one who'd rather see a round robin tournament between the good fighters? I mean a four man league between Overeem, Fedor, Silva and Werdum would be pretty interesting. We'd get a lot of great fights throughout the year and it'd cool to see if somebody could run the table against three very different opponents. Plus it'd be a genuinely elite competition.

 

The most important point in this thread was made by Will Cooling, when he pointed out that Strikeforce's heavyweight division is inferior to the UFC's because Strikeforce can't actually make their top fights happen. This can't be said enough.

In 2010 Overeem defended his title a grand total of once, despite being able to fit in five K-1 fights. Werdum fought once. Fedor fought once. Barnett was signed to great fanfare and hasn't fought, hasn't even got his license back to fight. Brett Rogers fought once. Andrei Arlovski fought once. Sergei Kharitonov hasn't fought. Valentijn Overeem hasn't fight.

Their most active contender is Bigfoot Silva, with two fights to his name.

What about their prospects? Shane Del Rosario, again, fought once. Bobby Lashley fought twice, but I bet Strikeforce wish he'd only fought once. Their brightest hope, Daniel Cormier, fought no less than five times in 2010, but only twice under the Strikeforce banner. He had to go to Australia twice to get fights!

Now I'm in agreement with the majority of posters in that I'd rather see a Strikeforce heavyweight tournament than a UFC one, but Strikeforce's premium division is an absolute shambles. It's a badly run, poorly promoted mess.

Is the way the SF division has been run this year a clear indiction of how it will be run next year though?

Barnett only signed a couple of months ago, Sergei a little before that but said he finishing his FEG contract first, Werdum has been injuried post Fedor, Overeem fought in the WGP and Rogers was having a comeback fight on a smaller show.

Thats not garentee things will improve this year but realistically setting up alot of HW matches over the last few months was never possible.

 

This shits on anything the UFC could do and anyone who says different is delusional.

 

This might relate to Sylvia's comments a few days ago aswell, he said he might be fighting in March for SF but didnt know for sure. Possible a standin incase someone drops out?

Not sure about his chances though if he did take part, the whole GP seems loaded with bad matchups(in Tims case powerful aggresive strikers) to me besides maybe Werdum and Barnett and I'd bet on both of them getting it down at some stage and subbing him.
