Strikeforce Is Planning A Heavyweight Grand Prix

I think it's quite a good indication, yes. I imagine we will see more Strikeforce fighters having to go outside the organisation to fight and a lot of time wasted on negotiations that drag on and on. Perhaps most importantly, I can see Overeem continuing with K-1 at the expense of his Strikeforce career, tying up the title for long periods.

It would be hard for 2011 to be as bad as 2010, but it still looks pretty bleak to me at this point.

You make a good point about how recent some of the signings are, but is it too much for Strikeforce to tell Barnett to stop missing his hearings with the athletic commission and get his license sorted out? Or agree with Overeem a schedule that guarantees he'll defend his title during the year? Or to find fights for guys like Rogers and Cormier on Strikeforce TV so that fans can follow their careers?

My problem isn't with the fighters, who have their own economic interests to look after, but the Strikeforce promotion which is doing such a bad job with a talent rich division which should be one of the most entertaining in MMA.

 

More like bigger than anything the UFC WOULD do. In terms of a heavyweight card/tournament yes it is bigger than anything the UFC could do. In terms of a single fight card, or a single weightclass tournament, the UFC could do better.

This tournament will never happen, it sounds like a great idea and it would be great but SF can't even get these guys to fight each other . M1 has been "re negotiating" since June to get him back in the ring and it's still not over. M1 would want control of the tourny and have to "re negotiate" after every fight. Does anyone think Overeem will commit to this given his interest elsewhere? Barnett doesn't even have a liscence.

This would be great if Coker can pull it off but he has a better chance of seeing God, most of his time is spent negotiating with M1.

Also bigger than anything Strikeforce can do; not a chance in hell they get Barnett, Overeem, Fedor, and Werdum fighting at the same time without the guarantee of a championship fight or rematch.

 

Overeem did actually defend his title this year, what threw a spanner in the works was Werdum beating Fedor then getting sugery. So really the only option was Fedor/Overeem with alot less hype, understabale why that didnt happen and I don't think it would have in the UFC either.

 

Sounds great. Let's see if it happens. Not only that... let's see if they put it together the way that they should. They shouldn't spread it out one fight at a time over their events. That is just asking for hell... as soon as one guy gets injured in training and everything gets bumped a year, ect....

If they do it, I hope it is true GP style.
