Strikeforce look to sign Vic Darchinyan

    I got all the respect in the world for Vic, but even with his base, 36 is too old to start

    That's a commonsense call Stoo. But guys like Vic have enormous self-belief, and if he decides to give it a go it'll be with the ultimate commitment of a true professional.

    I sure as hell wouldn't be the one to say he can't do it. Just that it will be extremely difficult at 36.

    As Flea said earlier, he may have success at a Bellator/One FC level, but it be a tough going to work his way through the ranks to the UFC and I doubt they will be willing to take a punt, even with his experience

    He certainly wont be doing it for the money, I'll give him that

    Even with a solid wrestling base he hasn't got any MMA experience. Thats ignoring kicks and submissions.
    If he does it then its very brave and ill have alot of respect for him.

    Easiest thing in the world is to just say: Vic Darchinyan is 36 and can't do it.

    But who wouldn't want to see him give it a go?

    Vic's father, Ruben Darchinyan, was an Olympic wrestling coach for Armenia. Vic wrestled as a kid. No doubt learning from a very good teacher in his father, and he has often included wrestling as cross-training during his boxing career.

    So the question again: Who wouldn't want to see Vic give MMA a go?

    He'd be tiny even for a Flyweight in MMA. Keep in mind that a lot of those guys have wrestling backgrounds and are used to cutting a lot more weight than boxers do. We're probably going to see some guys who are actually natural Featherweights by MMA standards (who would be natural Welterweights in boxing) cutting down to 125 in order to be more competitive now that the UFC and Bellator are putting on Flyweight fights.

    Vic doesn't have a prayer. He's too old and too small. Maybe in another life.

    Perhaps even in this life?

    Yes, he'd be up against all sorts of challenges and improbabilities. But if Vic Darchintan decides to have a crack at it, I for one will take great interest in watching how he goes :good

    you guys act like 36 is a death sentence, hes already a pro athlete... he wont get to the top, but im sure hell be okay

    If by "okay" you mean beat a few bums and no hopers in regional shows, I'm sure that he'll be just fine.

    Jeff Fenech has warned Vic Darchinyan against crossing over to MMA >>>

    "I'm not saying Vic's not strong, of course he is, but against those other blokes who've been doing it for years he'll get choked out in no time. Once they get him down on the floor, you've got to have experience".

    But in the same article Fenech is critical of Vic for having had Fenech's own former trainer Johnny Lewis in his corner the other night, saying >>>

    "With all due respect to Johnny Lewis, he's not the right bloke to tell Vic how to do those things because he hasn't been there and done them himself."

    How quickly they forget :patsch

    Fenech not only had Lewis in his corner for probably every one of his fights, he used to refer to him as like a father to him.

    I'd like to see someone choke Fenech out in the cage. Good luck to Vic if he wishes to enter the cage. Power in is hands can rattle most with 4oz gloves on. Look what Mercer did to TIm Sylvia.........only takes one punch. But if it goes to the ground....well thats another story.

    Vic's preference would be to keep it stand-up that's for sure :good

    MMA flyweights sure won't enjoy being hit by him wearing only 4 oz gloves.
