Masvidal never let his hands go. Melendez did a good job outworking him with combinations all night but after that performance I don't think he can cope with Frankie Edgar's speed, precision and combinations.
Again, Masvidal proves that he is very inconsistant and doesn't fight with a sense of urgency. I have been a fan of his for quite a while, and it is frustrating seeing him unable to live up to his potential.
I agree. Melendez won on volume, but he really wasn't impressive either. I understand that height could be a problem, but Masvidal was extremely predictable and still found success and busted up Melendez's face. Melendez himself was pretty predictable and his takedowns looked very weak. I don't see him giving Edgar any problems at all. He isn't going to put Edgar on his back and he won't beat him on his feet.
Gilbert is better than Masvidal in every area I think. Even his hands turned out to be better. Gils hands were being under estimated.
To Melendez' credit, Masvidal was fighting an extremely careful fight. He wasn't wild or careless with his punches. Masvidal even scored with a higher percentage. He clearly had a gameplan and he stuck to it but it wasn't working against Melendez who just outworked him. Masvidal had no plan B.
I agree. Noons fought a very slick fight. Evangelista just had no respect for his power until the very end of the fight.
Noons is exciting but sloppy as hell. Masvidal has the tools and potential - height, speed reflexes, but seemed to lack will, confidence, or experience at the big stage to establish his game plan. He just seemed preoccupied with wanting to look good and not do much. Too much waiting, bravado, and not enough fighting. Melendez proved to be the better fighter.
