I'm shocked because they're taking the plunge on women's MMA based solely on the potential marketability of Rousey. One fighter is what the entire women's division depends on. That could lead to major embarrassment for all parties if Rousey suffers some sort of career ending injury or decides to quit like Carano did.
Women's sports is never a huge draw. Like, for example at Wimbledon it can suppliment the mens, but it is mid card status at best. Gina aint coming back and after Rousey v Cyborg it will reach **** break status at best. But dont under estimate the teenage ''Ronda is so hot'' market
That's probably what they're going for. They'll cash in on womens MMA while they can, it's only one division, so a rotating roster of fighters working their way in for a shot at Rousey or Cyborg (should it happen) until they run out of interest and they'll dissolve the division. If they retain some of the teenage crowd, so much the better.
Hopefully Ronda will inspire more gals to take up MMA in the though, doesnt mean the public will have an appetite for it though. But even if they reach mid card status it's good for the sport. I think Ronda could be the Royce of womens MMA, if you can understand the reference
