DREAM welterweight champion Marius Zaromskis may soon be fighting in the U.S. as "The Whitemare" has signed a multi-fight agreement with Strikeforce. Promotion officials announced the intriguing addition to the Strikeforce roster on Saturday afternoon. While Strikeforce and DREAM have forged an official partnership in an effort to cross-promote, Strikeforce Director of Communications Mike Afromowitz told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that Zaromskis' contract will operate independently of that deal. Details of the contract, other than the multi-fight nature of the deal, were not released. Zaromskis is still expected to compete for the Japanese-based DREAM organization in addition to his new Strikeforce duties. Zaromskis rose to worldwide prominence during his impressive run to the title in DREAM's 2009 welterweight grand prix. Zaromskis earned a unanimous-decision win over Seichi Ikemoto in April before putting together two impressive finishes over Jason High and Hayato "Mach" Sakurai on July 20 to claim the belt. Zaromskis has since earned another knockout win over Myeon Ho Bae at this past week's DREAM.12 event. The 29-year-old has earned 10 of his 13 career wins by knockout or TKO. Afromowitz said a date for Zaromskis debut has not yet been determined. -------------------------------------------------------------- http://mmajunkie.com/news/16690/dre...s-signs-multi-fight-deal-with-strikeforce.mma
Two signings that could change Strikeforce is Rampage and Henderson. Throw them in at 205 with Mousasi and Bablu and depth is achieved instantly.
That would be something else. What do you think about the signing of Zaromskis? I'm really pleased about Strikeforce signing Marius, great addition. This guy's a tremendous talent, deadly striker and very exciting to watch.
It adds depth but lacks name recognition. Guys like Babalu and Diaz might not be elite fighters but their name rings a bell to the average American UFC fan. That is why Henderson and Rampage would be huge signings. Strikeforce need recognisable people. If Pudzanowski gets one or two wins then they should sign him. Not because he is brillant but simply cos his name might make a a few average joe's tune in. Same with the Kimbo Slice type fighters, ex boxers etc These guys won't be elite but give people a reason to tune in and then try and win them over with genuine talent like Le and Mousasi.
Great addition to their roster talent wise. He's just really come to the attention of the hardcore fans and I'm sure he'll have no problems appealing to the casual fan. They'll love his style.
if i tell the average joe to watch zaromskis, they won't. even though he is as brutal as they come and won't roll around on the ground. however, put kimbo slice on the bill with zromskis on the undercard and zaromskis will get some attention and hopefully make them come back a second time to watch him rather than kimbo. ufc pretend they won't do it but they are doing the exact same thing with brock and now kimbo. fedor, mousasi and le are genuine fighters who could mess with the top ufc fighters. strikefroce have the fighters they just need the depth and marketing.
i've only seen his dream fights. i'm looking at his cage rage stuff now. want to see his 2 losses to mills. must have his number or something.
just saw the first mills loss. mills was doing great but defensive, zaromskis had the slight upper hand. the ko was unlucky and brutal. need to see the rematch now.
cant find the rematch. it says doctor stoppage. was it a cut or something? stopped in between rounds?
Che Mills (6-1) forced a doctor’s stoppage TKO of This content is protected (7-2) after cutting the Lithuanian’s eyelid. http://www.fighters.com/fighter/marius-zaromskis
You summed it all up very well. Like you mentioned marketing is the key. Fighters with name recognition and star power is what will draw in the casual fans. Stand-outs like Mousasi and the up and coming Zaromskis will then be exposed to a wider audience to showcase their skills.
