The fights are streamed live on Yahoo.com for anyone interested. Sean Salmon (of Rashad Evan's kick in the head fame) just got starched in about 20 seconds by Jorge Santiago (of losing to Chris Leben fame). He got kneed right in the face, and was out for a good four or five minutes. He just got carted off in a neck brace. Hope he's okay. Poor guy should hang them up.
Trevor Prangley wins via against Niko Vitale in the second round. He scratched Vitale in the eye (accidental) and the doctor called a halt to the fight. It was a sucky way to end what was up to that point an awesome fight. Both guys were banging it out and bloodied up. Since it was an accidental foul, the rules said they had to judge the partial round and the first round to determine the winner. Apparently, the judges came to a majority draw, so then the California athletic commision let the referee (WTF?) pick who won. The ref picked Prangley. Prangley will now face Jorge Santiago in the final round of the middleweight tournament. Weirdest ending to a fight that I have ever seen. I'm pretty sure they just made that **** up on the spot. They let the ref pick the winner. I mean, seriously? Edit: Apparently, it will go on their records as a draw, and the ref only picked who got to advance to the tournament finals. At least, that's what I think after some research. Still weird ****.
Alright, I'm done with the play-by-play, since no one appears to be on, and anyone that is on can watch it for free :good
I've always wondered why things like accidental eye scratches aren't ruled a foul, even if they were really accident. I mean, if I punch a guy in the nuts by accident, I can still get DQ'd. It sucks to lose from DQ, but isn't it kind of unfair that an "accidental" eye scratch means a draw, while an accidental low blow gets you DQ'd? Headbutts are different, because it usually takes two to do enough damage that way, but an eye scratch is really only the fault of the scratcher.
I dont think 1 low blow would be a DQ, it goes, warning, point, DQ. So if the fighter couldn't continue after a low blow I think, but am by no means certain that the same thing would happen, the round gets scored and the winner is who is ahead on the cards, same thing happened tonight but the cards had it a majority draw so the ref was the deciding vote.
