Strikeforce vs. Bellator superfights

Why would Showtime want this fight when there's zero evidence Eddie Alvarez is a draw? Yeah, it's a good fight, but Showtime pays Strikeforce to put on shows to get subscribers and viewers, not out of some altruistic concern for the sanctity of sport.

I'm not against this fight, just as I'm not against having only one champion in every boxing weight class and getting rid of the alphabet orgs, I'm just being realistic. I'd love to see it happen. The only way it will is if Eddie Alvarez leaves Bellator and chooses to fight in Strikeforce for some fights or Gilbert Melendez does the opposite and leaves Strikeforce and chooses to fight in Bellator. The most likely is Alvarez leaving Bellator for Strikeforce because Bellator are overpaying him compared to what value he brings the company, but once that contract is up I'd suspect he'd go to UFC over Strikeforce.

Even boxing is going toward the MMA model. I'm reading the Maxboxing article on how HBO has harmed the sport lately, and this is from the horse's mouth himself, Oscar de la Hoya regarding what he wants Golden Boy to become:

Fighters shouldn't be forced to sign with specific promoters to get fights, back when Don King ruled the sport he was heavily criticized for getting options on fighters and Oscar was slammed by the whole boxing media after those comments.

For better or worse, your viewpoint is shared by most of the MMA promoters/media/fans. I think it cheapens the sport, but if the majority of fans don't care I guess I shouldn't care either since nothing will change.
