They stacked one side of the bracket. Why wouldn't they want to potentially set up Fedor/Werdum II or Fedor/Overeem in the final?
I'm a little puzzled by this too. The only thing I can come up with is that they are wanting to create a lot of buzz with a big semi final fight with the Fedor/Silva winner and the Overeem/Werdum winner. Then hope to get a lot of the new fans created by the buzz to want to see the tournament final. It almost looks as if they want to settle who there champion really is in the semi final bout, giving him a high profile defense in the finals.
Maybe they stacked it just in case there's upsetsin the 1st rd and we don't get to see the best fighting the best.
Right side of the bracket should be a walkover for Barnett. Shocked they put Fedor and Overeem on the same side props to them for that. :good
There is nothing implied in calling something a "Grand Prix" that means it takes place in one night. Even GP's that do have multiple fights in 1 nights spread out the earlier rounds to 1 fight a night.
As for the brackets, I think the goal is to get Fedor in the final against a good opponent. Fedor is an overwhelming favorite against Silva, so no matter the outcome of the first fight the final is Fedor in a great matchup.
Fedor has already fought 2 of the 4 on the other side of the bracket (Arlovski, Rogers) The more i look at this bracket it is screwed they should have put Fedor and Overeem or Werdum on opposite sides.
I like it better this way. First off... they may assume that Barnett is possibly the best guy in the tourny...or 2nd best. I don't disagree. I would rather get the chance to see Fedor vs Silva, Overeem/Werdum, and Barnett.
Thats what I'm thinking. If Fedor wins then we get 1 of the 2 fights everyone wants to see in Fedor/Overrem or Fedor/Werdum 2.
Dont care not bothered. I want a GP the old way when fighters fought twice or three times in one night with a 15 minute round. Thats a REAL GP. Not this tournament bollocks.
Only reason i can think of they put Fedor and Reem in the same half is that Reem demanded it. He wants to beat Fedor bad, and was probably shitting his roid ass that Fedor would lose again before he got the chance
This is an amazing idea. Completely blows the UFC hw division out of the water. Although it's far from a guarantee that they would both make it, personally I'd prefer it to be organized so that it would be possible for Fedor and Overeem to meet in the final. I think that's the final most people would like to see. Fedor should face Werdum in his 1st fight. Still, this is amazing anyway!
 Well it's not going to happen. The original UFC one-night tournaments were clusterf*cks in hindsight from an organizational perspective. Overeem's victory in K-1 GP was impressive, but he got lucky facing Saki in the semis who came into the fight with broken ribs from facing Ghita and in the final he faced Aerts who was done from his bruising battle with Schilt. There's enough issues with all tournaments, be they fighting or basketball, regarding luck of the draw, we don't need to add previously inflicted injuries from another opponent, it's why in the NCAA tournament they have the two winners play on two days' rest instead of later on in the evening after their initial wins.
