You said ali out muscles him on film? Unforiving isn't exactly what I would call a good sorce...no offense but half the stuff that guy says is false!! you made reference that because ali was winning the fight he must have been stronger, its in the thread, you posted this!
How about when Frazier battered Ali two fights on the ropes ,and ali could do nothing to keep Frazier off him?
He outmuscled him when foreman was tired, this was established already. this does not indicate Ali out muscled him because he was stronger.Had ali actually been sdtronger then Foreman, the rope a dope does not need to be used. Ali had a very low count of taking head shots I will go thru the fight and count the solid ones that actually landed by foreman and I guarantee it is low. I actually just watched the entire fight, ali didn't out muscle anything ,even an exhausted foreman by round 6 was still pushing him backwards. As to the head shot count ,foreman punches that actually landed solid was extremely poor,in round one alone,he only landed 4 ones out of about 25 head shots thrown...altether he landed about only 27 power shots to the head and not one landed was off the ropes, the best punch was foremans right uppercut in rnd round 7 but he looked like he was on his death bed.All in all I saw glancing blows /blocked and completly missed ones that would resemble a major league pitcher more than a pro fighter,no wonder why he lost so badly..
So you are saying Ali has strength over skill ? You imbecile because that's what you are replying to?
Ali was much fitter than Foreman, which would have helped him keep his optimum strength for much longer, whereas George had that Raw natural power and minimum stamina. Oneil Bell always looked very strong.
Pure strength Primo Carnera may have been the strongest he was big, solid and working as a circus strongman prior to boxing and a professional wrestler after, but all that strength never showed in the ring. Jess Willard was witnesses while working on a farm for picking up and carrying a 500+ pound hay bale. Jim Jeffries prime saw the legend of him carrying/running with a deer on his shoulders after a hunt for 10 miles while the rest of the party struggled to keep up. George Foreman lifting a 600+ pound calf for photographers and pulling vehicles during runs. David Haye workouts are something to watch, you would be hardpressed to find another athlete his size climb a rope without legs like he can...pure atrength
Nah, Ali was strong, but he wasn't stronger than George. Don't see it. However, I do see what you're saying when it comes to applicable strength for boxing.
Foreman BARLEY landed anything of significance while ali was on the ropes, and he was on the ropes 90% of the fight if not more deflecting shots or blocking them,i just watch this fight..foreman landed no more than 5 solid shots in the first round that were basically grazing ones to alis head because Ali was leaning back and saw them.I counted between 25/30 solid blows that didn't quite hit ali solid enough to make an huge impact,.foremans best punch came in the 7th ,an uppercut. I didnt include body shots however ,but the myth Ali took all these head shots is untrue. Out of 25 shots to the head that foreman thru only 4/5 landed in the first round, thats basically how the fight went down.I had Foreman landing less than 20 solid right hands the entire fight, and less than 10 lefts, and about 5 significant ones altogether where Ali didn't deflect them. It is a stretch believe me ali couldn't still do much until foreman gassed out,he was actually gassing after round 2 on his stool. This isn't to say ali wasn't winning rounds, but foreman body shots add up to,so? Its pretty obvious scoring wasn't all concerning to ali,he knew he had this won after 3 rounds and this was not going the distance. As always I tuned out Cosell so I could actually get a real life perspective on it.
