It goes on and on. So many fighters in their primes but they won't fight each other. The sport is freaking dead outside of Canelo making waves twice a year (and even he is sometimes guilty of facing opponents who have no chance).

Seriously, why should anyone care about this sport when the best won't fight the best? Why do idiotic fans keep spending money instead of boycotting until these fighters and their greedy promoters get their act together? I can see why old school boxing is so popular because fans didn't need to wait 4-5 years for two rivals to fight or speculate arguing about who would win, who deserves to be the A side, Twitter gossip, etc. It would be easy to blame Mayweather and Pacquiao but honestly this has been going on for a while.

This generation will end up being just like the 80's heavyweights. Not in the sense that they squandered their careers on drugs, but because they squandered their youth trying to be popular on social media and fighting tomato cans. You can't improve if you don't face better competition. These spoiled kids already barely fight twice a year and conveniently have FOUR belts to choose from.

I cannot even remember the last time talked to a coworker about fights I watched over the weekend, remember that? If sports are brought up it's often basketball, football, baseball, etc. If combat sports are brought up UFC often takes the place of boxing and none of us can even be mad about it. I actually enjoy all of the above, but man I miss when big fights were made and I could invite people over for dinner+PPV. That **** is done. And the idiotic fanboys make it worse writing essays justifying the ducking.

You make a lot of valid points.
But this has been the case for decades.
    You must be very young.

The issues are the promoters & The networks they are tied too.
& it’s why TRUE Cash Cows like AJ or Canelo
Can actually force promoters into some of the fights they want. (Depending what kind of leverage Or time they have left on their contracts or if they have an exclusive deal)

For Canelo that was Bivol but in order to get the Bivol fight he had to fight GGG 3 as part of a package deal so DAZN could finally attempt to recoup / collect on that original GGG investment al those years ago.

Weird OP considering the number of recent unifications.

Crawford vs Spence is a debacle, no question, but otherwise most of the names on that list are either insignificant (Andrade) or don’t belong there (Fury).

    Patience.

We get that good woman fight next week

Usyk is to blame for not getting blockbuster this December...but can we fault him for not rushing into Fury's big arms?

Fury fighting Chisora in December!!! It’s hard for anyone to defend this match up.

Hopefully we'll at least get to see Usyk vs Fury. After this, Fury will retire regardless of the result.

If Usyk retires, then it may be AJ vs Joyce or AJ vs Wilder for the vacate belts, so that's interesting I guess.

Fury does belong there. Guy's resume is thin as hell, fought an ancient Wladmir then ran from a rematch and fought Wilder 3x. Who else did he fight? Chisora? He has somehow missed Ruiz, Parker, Usyk, Povetkin, Joyce, Ortiz, Joshua, etc. Way too many people in the division he could have fought. If he stays retired I won't even rate him in the top 15.

Andrade is mostly insignificant because of poor management and poor decisions. He could have fought Lara or one of the charlos but he just keeps chasing pay days with Canelo. That was my entire point in the post, that so many talented fighters have wasted most of their careers fighting nobodies.

Focus on the fights that are happening that interest you. I’m looking forward to Lomachenko’s comeback. I hear his opponent is decent and possibly underrated so that’s a plus. Looking forward to the undercard too with Robeisy vs Magdaleno. Looking forward to Chocolatito vs Estrada. Prograis vs Zepeda. William Zepeda vs Diaz. Bivol vs Ramirez.

Would absolutely love to see this problem go away. I still watch boxing, but not nearly as closely as I once did, and the sanctioning bodies have a lot to do with it. If somebody, somehow rids the sport of the WBA, WBC, IBF, & WBO and gets it back to one belt....The Ring, or something like it...that would be a huge step towards fixing boxing's problems. There would be no shortcuts to "World" title belts. The best would have to fight the best. A little more oversight would be nice as well, maybe like a FIFA-type organization overseeing the sport. Seeing things like Don King buying rankings for fighters is beyond tiresome at this point. That kind of thing has gone on unchecked for way too long...

Honestly this is how I feel nowadays boxing was so much more fun and exciting in the 2000s now everyone too scared to risk their 0

But I will say this I think fans are major reason too as soon as a fighter loses they suddenly be seen as a bum or a fraud e.g Joshua, Lopez

The talking with a co-worker about what fights you watched over the weekend really resonates with me. That used to be a pretty regular conversation. Now the talk is about NFL football, NBA basketball and MMA. Here in America, even baseball is rarely talked about at work. The playoffs have started and the World Series is a couple of weeks away and there will, at most, be one guy beside myself who talks about it.

All of this being said and in all honesty, this web site has been a welcome haven for boxing conversations. Just about every weekend there is one fight or more that has an RBR thread along with follow up threads and conversations. While it's not quite the same as in person, it is an enjoyable replacement.

This is a new age and a new era. Its all about getting Top dollar purses nowadays. 1 million dollar purses wont cut it like it did back in the good days of boxing. 90's, early 2000s for me.

I have nothing against boxers getting paid good money. They are putting their health on the line for entertainment.

But what these idiots don't realize is if they fought better competition they'd make even more money. Greedy promoters seem to have missed this memo and encourage the ducking/protecting their undefeated record. Sure, you can make consistent money taking on mediocre/trash opponents for years, but when you step up in class you can become an A side big shot. And if you fight other A side big shots you can become a household name which means even more money. People seem to forget Mayweather paid his dues and fought all kinds of competition before he became Money May. These new boxers just see all the flash and cash and think "oh I just need to avoid losing and cherry pick".
