How about Roy implying that he lost to Tarver on purpose in their third fight because he didn't want his father to get the credit.
It seemed like the reporter took that quote out of context and he wasn't really trying to claim that. I did like Roy's excuse for losing to Johnson. "Fighting after the hurricane was a risk that didn't work out"
I've always hated the excuse "Fighter ____ lost because he wasn't in shape." It's always used as a defense to imply that the loss didn't really count. If a high paid athlete can't come into a fight in shape, then he really has nothing to whine about when he loses. Sure, Tyson may not have been in shape against Douglas, but the only response I have to that is "Well Mike, you should have been." Similarly, even though I'm a Lennox Lewis fan, I have no sympathy for him if he came into the first Rahman fight out of shape. Just like Tyson, he got exactly what he deserved.
How bout the thread saying Hopkins age wasnt a factor against Joe. Kinda the excuse thing in reverse. But just as stupid.
"I hurt my hand" In a sport wear youre supposed to hit the other guy onm the nogin . . .thats a sad excuse.
That was qwerty from the old secondsout board, which shut down due to protests from Frank Warren. He always posts nonsense just for kicks, and never spells anything correctly. Harold Lederman commented in the 4th round, right before Tito dropped Koppy, that you couldn't move as much because the ring was spongy. So the guy started a legendary thread saying "joppy lost becuase of teh ring!" (it's not a true qwerty thread if there are no spelling or grammar errors)
Quitali and his foreign substance loss against Chris Byrd was a pretty lame excuse. On the lines of people being drugged, didn't Tarver claim he was drugged after his loss to Hopkins?
At the time, he said that Byrd's trainers put a foreign substance on his gloves and it was getting in his eyes, so he couldn't see. He also said his brother was drugged when he lost to Brewster, although I don't think Wlad himself ever said that. Edit: It was the other way around - Byrd accusing Wlad in their first fight. My recollection is all goofy. I remember there was some Byrd-Klitschko fight or another with foreign substance complaints....
Byrd was the one claiming a foreign substance was on Wlads gloves during their first fight b/c his face became so swollen. I guess it was out of the question that it was b/c of all the punches Wlad waas landing.
