Stupid question: Should boxers be banned from riding motorcycles?

If the promoters told made risky things like skydiving, bungee jumping, motor cycle riding and other risky venture that threaten life and heath a breach of contract the fighters would stop doing dumb **** like that.

Formula 1 drivers have to ask permission to take part in any 'extra curriculer' activities...

Not allowed to take part in rallies.. or other races lol which sucks for them since they are racers at heart...

All in an effort to stop them hurting themselves.

Ban NO. Its their choice. These guys are risk takers by nature to begin with, or they wouldn't be fighting for a living. I'm sure Williams will be sorry at the end of the day his large purses came to an end and he'll likely live the rest of his life broke because he can no longer earn and the medical expenses from this will likely wipe him out.
That being said, he could have walked outside and caught a stray bullet in the back, got hit by lightening, fell down the stairs or whatever. Sure motorcycling has more risk than many things, but at the end of the day it has to be up to the individual.

 

Maybe not ban them but if i were a trainer or promoter id tell my fighter not to

i thought it was foolish that Williams would ride a motorcycle around when he had this huge fight coming up

i mean even if he wasnt paralyzed a minor crash could still postpone or take him out of the fight thus killing a big opportunity

Absolutely. People should also be banned from smoking, drinking, eating junk food, driving cars, camping, playing sports, crossing the street, exposing themselves to sunlight, etc etc...

 

no they shouldn't be banned but riding motorcycles is extra dangerous even if you are a safe driver.

 

edwin valero cant fight in the states because he's dead and gone. It would obviously be tough for there to be a mandatory rule forbidding fighters from riding motorcycles, but it could definitely be stipulated in a contract between promoter and fighter, that if any accident is suffered, no matter how severe, with the fighter riding a motorcycle, the contract between promoter and fighter is immediately terminated. that would definitely discourage a fighter from any daredevil motorcycle riding. there have been crazier contractual terms that's for sure.

It's really not a surprise that so many fighters have suffered terrible injuries and/or death due to motorcycle related incidents. these guys live their lives on the edge when they step into that squared circle, so it's understandable that they would be just as fearless when riding a motorcycle.

No, you can't ban them from something that everyone else is allowed to do, just because they're boxers.

Boxing is irrelevant here anyway, since anyone, regardless of profession can sustain serious injury or die from a motorcycle accident. I don't understand people who say "you would think boxers would know better" as if the average person doesn't have as much to lose.

 

If I was a promoter? There would be a clause about that crap and all other motorized vehicles in the contract of any fighter in my stable. NO!

 

People in general should stay off of bikes. Personal freedom aside I'm tired of hearing about good men like Paul Williams getting tore up on these things.
